I usually go for a coffee break during the DI's but stayed to watch today. To all the fans who think the Japanese fans hate foreigners-the biggest applause (after Takamisakari of course) went to Baruto, Kotooushuu and KaioU, in that order. Even the commentators commentated on that.

Kokkai was tsuyuharai today. Is he always?

Osh always gets warm applause, it seems to me. And I can't remember Kokkai doing that duty before, although I could be mistaken.

I have now seen Kokkai do it a number of times. When Hakuho fights one of the regulars usually! Because of his heavy beard he told me he shaves just half an hour before the dohyoiri to make the cleanest look. Today I didn't watch the Yokozuna dohyo iri (ummm this is recently my toilet time..) so I didn't notice if he was clean shaven or not!

In this basho Baruto has been getting the most applause I think even over Takamisakari most days!!! The crowd is going wild during the dohyoiri and during his match. Today small children were screaming so loud for him that we took some video of them. Didn't think that much volume could come out of a body so small!!! I would say Baruto is the favorite. Every day I take a taxi in the morning and the evening and every taxi driver has talked about how much they like Baruto and want him to be ozeki and or get the yusho!!!

They'll support Baruto because of the ozeki run, not to mention he's still in the yusho race on par with Hakuho. As for me, I'll support him too (Sign of approval...)

They like Bart cause he is a softy with blue eyes and blond hair...and his super power (Nodding yes...) , positive attitude......

He was featured in the book "Kawaii sumo" along with the "cuties" of Sumo.

Maybe it is just me, but with this ever-lasting smile, I think he looks like a mega teddy bear to them all - especially to the kids. (Hugging...)

The procedure has definitely begun as I observed in another thread, and Onoe Oyakata backed me up on NHK today.

I'm talking more about the off-dohyo stuff...getting more serious while inside the arena is probably unavoidable. Nobody ever accused Musashimaru of not talking things seriously between the straw bales*, but outside of that it didn't stop him from remaining...well, quite a bit different from the ultra-stoic Takanohana/Hakuho yokozuna mold. That's kinda what I'm hoping to see with Baruto, because I can see him become wildly popular if he makes it to yokozuna with that image, even if he turns out to be a "standard" yokozuna and not quite Hakuho's equal on the dohyo.

* While yokozuna, that is; not 100% sure about his lengthy ozeki stint.

Musashimaru never talked much, let alone on the dohyo... (Nodding yes...) and let's wait how Baruto will do as ozeki (on and off the dohyo) before we talk about yokozuna.

They were matched up that day for a bout. Same-day opponents do not participate in the same yokozuna dohyo-iri group.

K. I neglected to see the emphasis on the last word. I thought there was something more to it, glad there isn't.
