Horse and eating

Recommended Posts

Realised that horses are often a constituent of eating idioms. "I am so hungry I could eat a horse!" is one that suggests that the person is very hungry and could eat a whole horse because of his/her hunger. "You eat like a horse!" refers to a person who eats big doses of food and the amount is so big that one could imagine a horse eating that much but not really a human. Mitoizumi ate like a horse.

Wouldn't it be funny if horses themselves would know this and would use the same idioms in their communication? "You eat like a horse!". "Yes! I am a horse you horse face!" or "I am so hungry I could eat a horse!". In human language such a comment is sometimes considered sexually coloured. If one could eat someone up, it can be a reference to sexual attraction. When human says "I could eat a horse!" it extremely rarely has any sexual content and is solely an indication or another urge (hunger). I just wonder how it would be interpreted in horse's world! If horse says to another horse that "I could eat a horse!", is it always innocent hunger related? I think it is because as every attentive human can see, the usual idiom has that beginning "I am so hungry I could eat a horse" and that is more explanatory. Normally humans don't refer to any particular horse either when they say they could eat a horse so this whole pondering session is done in vain and I apologize for taking your time.

How about "hung like a horse" (In a state of confusion...)

You can lead a horse to water... (another nourishment-intake related horse idiom) (In a state of confusion...)

In Croatian, a mild insult to someone who's a bit thick in the head and regularly munches on your nerves is: "You horse" (Konju jedan!). And of course, it is positive when a woman calls a man "a stallion" - same meaning in most languages I'd guess. :-P

On an unrelated note - I dreamt tonight that SFI found out Kaikitsune-zeki was in fact a woman posing as a man. She was quite nice, actually, reminded me a lot of my cousin. (Scratching chin...) My dreams get wierd in basho time...

edit: stupid error. I'm not gonna tell you which one (In a state of confusion...)

(Pulling hair...) :-P

I saw your error....

You see interesting dreams Manekineko-zeki. Maybe my posts have had some feminine side which made your subconscience to create such an interesting scenario! Then again your Buyuzan-Bushuyama-metamorphosis-wedding dream was even more interesting B-)

I'd like to be a woman for one day though. I'd like to know how it feels to squat down with such a wide hip structure. Must feel different, especially in sets. Hip being wide, the angle of descending down as in squat is more obstacle-free I bet.

I dreamt of achieving kachikoshi.

Rijicho's dreams are so boring....

Yeah, that rijicho dude is kind of dullard but at least you don't have to live with him. (Pulling hair...)

I'd love to be a woman for a day as well. I wouldn't do anything special. I'd just make notes of my thoughts. The next morning I'd read them but wouldn't understand much.

"Straight from the horse's mouth"-- no food there, or is there?

"Quit horsing around ", no food either..

"Look at the horse over there. They should have retired ages ago". Food for thought?

Horses were drawn into sumo place on ML too. This was written by a person:

Jumonji vs. Kasuganishiki

Both these men have losing records in the first week. Jumonji has 3 wins,

the horse-faced Kasuganishiki has only 2. Why the long face, Kasuganishiki?

Today Mr. Ed gallops out early for a matta. "Hold your horses!" the Gyoji

scolds. When they start again, Jumonji wins quickly by oshidashi (frontal

push out). Kasuganishiki better turn it up soon, or it will be off to the

glue factory for him.

The only time I hear of horses in my neck of the woods it goes like this 'raw horse - 5 slices for 800 yen' Local restaurant of course and isn't too bad with a bit of ginger / shoyu.

Or perhaps the horses would say "you eat like a human" (eat too little, to a kid) or worse yet, "hung like a human". ;-)

I feel like I've made a joke about this one on a previous joke thread...

...in any case, ain't gonna be no horsies laughing at me! B-)

As for the original thought, maybe you could write a screenplay, cast Julia Roberts and Gerard Depardieu in the leads, and see how it plays out (Sigh...)

You know, this thread makes me feel like riding a horse. My girlfriend enjoys horseback riding as well. But during the winter in Boston, it's cold for horses so they're kept indoors most of the time and most riding ranches are closed to the public.

Dont look a gift horse in the mouth, only fools and horses do that but then again I am only horsing around now. Tochiazuma put his cart before the horse this basho and now his tsuna hungry supporters are flogging a dead horse, it really is a dead horse matter. A horse of a different colour is beating all the other horses this basho. kakizoe was bit of a dark horse too. Its all just horse play now and hold your horses because I havent fininished with this "horseplay". Some of the Yokozuna deliberation council have gotten on their high horses recently, but they have locked the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Asa will zensho me thinks, wild horses couldnt keep him away maybe only the old war house KaioU can do it. zenshoyushos are as scarce as rocking horse 'manure'.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride and zuma would have a big white belt.

after all i think you get my drift a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse :-D
