sekihiryu 51 Posted January 21, 2004 Asashouryu is hot this Basho, he is smoking everyone in his path. Can he make it a perfect tournament? Who will stop him in his current form?
Naifuzan 1 Posted January 21, 2004 Tosanoumi shouldnt be any problem and he's shown in the past that he can beat all three of the remaining ozeki, so I there definatly is a chance he might get the zensho. However it seems pretty probably he wont get it, since he has 4 chances to lose concentration and slip up. Also if KaioU continues to show the strenght he's been showing lately he will be a difficult opponent. Anyway, I voted for "yes maybe".
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted January 21, 2004 You should have had a "no because this poll jinxed him" option ;-)
Takamueda 0 Posted January 21, 2004 If he really concentrates on the bouts, he can do it. Tochiazuma, Tosanoumi and Chiyo should be relatively easy, only Kaio could be a problem.
Manekineko 200 Posted January 21, 2004 I'd say he'll end up losing suprisingly to Taikai, or some such thing... B-)
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted January 21, 2004 (edited) If he really concentrates on the bouts, he can do it. Tochiazuma, Tosanoumi and Chiyo should be relatively easy, only Kaio could be a problem. Chiyotaikai, Tochiazuma and Kaio all got sumo so they can occasionally beat Asashoryu, and the fact that they haven't been at the top of their game does not necessarily mean they don't have a chance this time too. I doubt Tosanoumi will beat Asashoryu, but I wouldn't be particularly surprised if one or more of the Ozeki win. EDIT: I voted "no way jose" btw... Fujisan 533 Posted January 21, 2004 I voted Yes maybe but I would emphasise the maybe- Anyway Im backing him to beat Tosanoumi tonight in Chaingang but after that Im not so sure, lets see him get past Tosanoumi first.
Tumppi 0 Posted January 21, 2004 No way Jose, if not Chiyotaikai, then Kaio will steal Asashoryu's zensho away. Musashimaru was not so seldom at 10 - 0 when he was in shape, yet he only managed to get one (?) zensho, and that was somewhere in 1995 (?).
QttP 0 Posted January 21, 2004 Possible, but not very probable. With three ozeki, or in more or less good shape, and Tosanoumi who can sometimes upset anyone, it will be difficult.
Tony 16 Posted January 21, 2004 No, I don't think so. I think that Kaiou should defeat him.
Yangnomazuma 79 Posted January 21, 2004 Thinking Chiyotaikai will be the one to knock him off his perch. One second of lost concentration against a fast starter like Chiyo and he's toast. But...that's assuming he has a lapse due to his large lead.
Zenjimoto 40 Posted January 22, 2004 Now is the time! The way he has looked and the others have looked, I would say he has a good a chance as he'll ever get. The guy just looks SOLID. Cheers Zenjimoto
Jesinofuji 11 Posted January 22, 2004 I voted Yes, definitely. Asashoryu is the man, and no one will stop him this time!
Tumppi 0 Posted January 22, 2004 I voted Yes, definitely.Asashoryu is the man, and no one will stop him this time! After today's Ozeki performances I'm not so sure about the "no way Jose" anymore.. I still think Kaio can beat him though (unless Kaio tries to SLAP HIM DOWN (Applauding...) )
tominishiki 0 Posted January 22, 2004 I almost sure that he will loss to Kaio tommorow but he if wins tommorows bout he will win it
Fujisan 533 Posted January 22, 2004 Well Im not backing Asashoryu to win tomorrow in Chaingang,I want him too but its too much of a risk for my liking. Im thinking maybe Miyabiyama but we will see.

Umm, the ChainGang page says only Tsunamiko, Daninowaka, and Shayoto are in for day 12, and now Shayoto is out, and you were out on nakabi, so is the Chaingang results page still suffering from the server outage? Yes. According to the site, everyone played with their defaults on days 8-10 (and partly day 7), in other words no submissions were made. So forget what it says on the ChainGang site. Naifuzan 1 Posted January 22, 2004 its too much of a risk for my liking.Im thinking maybe Miyabiyama but we will see. Asasashoryu is too risky so you're thinking Miyabiyama??? Isn't he always pretty risky since he can fall over at any time without anyone hardly touching him? Sure, he can beat almost anyone. But he can also lose to anyone. Sorry 'bout the off topic btw. Miyabiyama isnt a risky rikishi this basho he has a very good basho and tommorow against Tochisakae I almost sure that he will win the bout
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted January 22, 2004 I'm not sure... I'd handicap it at 60% chance of Miyabiyama winning, which leaves a healthy probability for Tochisakae. Then again, when it comes to Chaingang I can offer absolutely no advice is my record in that game is miserable. ;-)
Kintamayama 45,119 Posted January 22, 2004 (edited) Umm, the ChainGang page says only Tsunamiko, Daninowaka, and Shayoto are in for day 12, and now Shayoto is out, and you were out on nakabi, so is the Chaingang results page still suffering from the server outage? As I have no accesss to the CG database(Only Kofuji does, and he's far, far away..)the page is not updated. but I do know more or less that we have 7 still standing for sure, including Fujisan, and a possible two more that didn't send me manual picks, so their subs may have won for them. Fujisan 533 Posted January 22, 2004 (edited) I have been playing every day by email Yoavo and I haven't picked a loser yet- Admittedly up to now it has mostly been Asashoryu I picked but I have a bad feeling about tomorrow. Anyway I have changed my pick from Miyabiyama but Im still considering my options, whoever I pick Im not gonna be totally happy but we will see. Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 23, 2004 Been thinking about this - Kaios's good. Not good enough though. Lethargy has appeared at times this basho and he seems to prefer his rightside too much. If I (think) I've noticed this Asa sure has. (is anything up with his left side?) Taikai - Good Tachi-ai and not letting Asa inside - perhaps. Azuma - something to prove - pride et al, wounded animal. He's the one if any - if only he can combine a good dose of thrusting with limiting Asa's work on the belt. If only? QttP 0 Posted January 23, 2004 After today Asashoryu's zensho yusho seems more likely than not. He's in top form, and I seriously doubt Taikai can defeat him using one hand as he did against Azuma today. Azuma himself doesn't look too good either.
