paolo 0 Posted January 27, 2004 I think that, like it happens in other sports and games, a new award could be created for the "Best Bout of the Basho". Would it be Asashoryu-Kotomitsuki ? What do other people think of it ? As a joke, I would propose also two other awards, maybe to be voted by this forum's readers: . most entertaining bout: my vote goes to the fantastic and absurd Kyokushusan-Wakanosato . best performance by a "anti-sumo" rikishi: definitely Kyokushusan ! I laughed out loud when I saw Yotsukasa vs Hayateumi. I had to watch it a couple of times before I quite grasped what had happened. The word frog comes to mind. ;-) Kakizoe vs Kyokushuzan was a bit frenetic too. On the subject of best bout, there were a number where good technique and skill played a part. For its combination of technique and entertainment value however, the Asashoryu vs Kotomitsuki bout would certainly be a good choice, in my opinion.

Finally, somebody is appreciating Kyokushuzan

Naganoyama 5,948 Posted January 28, 2004 Is it possible to watch it ? I think it is not on banzuke movies ! It was one of the Makuuchi movies added by Doitsu-zeki so it is on his pages, rather than Dale's. See Yotsukasa vs Hayateumi on page Day 6 I read on one of the news feeds that he did something similar on an earlier day but couldn't find any evidence of it from the movies. See http://www.banzuke.com/juryoika/200401/index.html I looked at the bouts on those four days. It was only in the Yotsukasa bout (day 6) that he jumped 3 feet into the air while performing the henka. Or did I miss something on the other days?
Naganoyama 5,948 Posted January 29, 2004 I wouldn't exactly call Asashoryu - Kotomitsuki a "good" bout. If your comment was that you didn't find the bout entertaining, then I will say that I find some bouts exciting when they are very balanced between the rikishi and when either could win right up to the end. Other bouts are thrilling due to the sheer dominance of one rikishi over another. This would for me fall into the latter category. I draw your attention to Yoavo-san's comments from another thread. Yoavoshimaru Posted: Jan 25, 2004, 16:24 It's like tennis in that some people like long, drawn-out points, baseline play, etc, while others prefer the quick serve and volley domination. If you didn't think the technique was good, I would be interested to know why.
