Mark Buckton 1 Posted July 31, 2004 (edited) http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/photospecials/04...cream04/01.htmlWHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING ??????his is the biggest gastronomical crime i have ever seen .... Adere-san, Japan has some of the most wonderful food I have ever had the pleasure of tasting - BUT you are spot on with your 'crime' comment on ice-creams. Look around that site and you'll be horrified. One place in west Tokyo (Ikebukuro) has soy sauce, natto, pizza, tuna and a hundred other ice creams someone sober would never have thought of developing. The real basashi I've tried comes with a mental block of sorts and needs a lot of ginger to go down with it - growing up with a horse as a member of the family - my sisiter's means the mind keeps a wandering. Sasanishiki 57 Posted August 6, 2004 I know there is a place up in Otaru (hokkaido) that has squid ink ice-cream (black, not surprisingly). I also had the beer ice cream from there, but it was about 5 years ago. From memory it tasted like beer. Well, at least given that it was an icecream and it tasted more like a beer than an icecream. Guest Niciton Posted November 25, 2004 :p for me horse meat is much tastier than beef, but of course i still prefer beef tongue. we, mongolians, boil the horse meat, after that cool it, then we eat it... we dont butcher baby animals, we make sure they are at least 12 months old... as i recall, ambassador of Britain in Mongolia couldnt find calf meat for their big celebration, coz nobody wanted to sell their baby cows, funny part is they finnaly found someone to sell a calf, but then owner found out they were going to eat the calf so he refused to sell... speaking about horse meat... we drink mare milk. we ferment the mare milk and call it 'airag'. its Mongolian home made beer, its for all ages, its even avialable for kids, coz its all milk. if you're in mongolia during summer, try our beer. its seasonal, we only milk mares during summer and fall. camel milk is good too :)) mongolians milk camels during winter and spring. Guest Cal Golden Bears Posted January 12, 2005 (edited) Mongolia is one huge country and yet very scarcely populated. Quite poverty striken and nomadic way of life . 2.7 million population in a country that has a size of 1.56 million square kilometres. Very rough weather changes as in Gobi desert Edited January 12, 2005 by Cal Golden Bears
Guest Cal Golden Bears Posted January 12, 2005 I should also mention that Inner Mongolia, a province within China, has just about as many Mongolians as Mongolia itself. Some would consider Inner Mongolia to be the more traditional home of the Mongolians, and in fact Genghis Khan was born in inner mongolia. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> good one. I guess population of Inner Mongolia is more than 6 million /we got ~2,7million/ Unfortunately, it's incorrect about Chinggis Khaan. He was born in Mongolia /as MongolPower mentioned before/ Inner mongolians are Mongolians and they got no kinship with Chinese /china just occupied it and declared as its province during Qing times/ It's a game of politics /hate politics, especially Chinese/

Elenrian 0 Posted January 12, 2005 have u ever heard Mongolian language??? Yes, I did!! I saw a Mongolian film (called "the Story of the weeping Camel", or something like this), and it was in Mongolian!! Unfortunately I never heard Korean... To me, Mongolian sounds like nothing else!! It's very different from the other languages I heard (Japanese, German, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Quenya, Sindarin...)!! I find it is very original!! Guest Cal Golden Bears Posted January 13, 2005 Yes, I did!! I saw a Mongolian film (called "the Story of the weeping Camel", or something like this), and it was in Mongolian!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> wow, even i haven't watched it yet. How was it? Did you like it? Very different from other cultures, right? I heard it has a chance to take home Oscar's *The best Foreign/intl. movie* /rumours/ I didn't watch it, so i really don't know how good it is. (Shaking head...)
Guest Cal Golden Bears Posted January 13, 2005 so.. what do mongolians write in? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> we officially use Cyrillics /just like Russians and some east europeans/ But we have our old style writing called Old Mongolian Script. It's very unique and different from others. Sometimes it looks like Arabic /my opinion/ but it goes from top to bottom and letters are joined together /different from Chinese, Japanese etc./ (Shaking head...) The story is quite simple, but no matter! The camels are very impressioning!!! (Shaking head...) And I don't know how the children travel without map!!! (in fact, we don't see if they have one) I enjoyed the Music too! This tradition is very original... In France, the journalists said it was a good film, and that we had to see it!!! It did! Lucius Flavonius 0 Posted January 26, 2005 So you kept the Cyrillic alphabet ... I used to think that after the fall of the Soviet Union you've thrown it away ... (Releasing bad air...) Are there any other letters in it, aside from these used in Russian? (Pulling hair...) Does it fit the sounds of your language? It was developed for Slavic people and their language so I guess it doesn't ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, the Cyrillic alphabet suits the Mongolian language very fine. It is close to the spoken language. The ancient writing, which reflects the medieval orthography, differs from the modern spoken tongue. Thus, it's difficult to learn for Mongolians nowadays. Like "daughter", slaughter" in English and "s'il vous plait" in French don't relate to the modern pronunciation, the words are not written the way the modern Mongolian language evolved.
