Another new weird shikona change

Recommended Posts

Baruto has a tsukibito from Chiganoura beya named Notononami. I have been complaining about him, asking if he is not ononami, then who the heck is he? At the senshuraku party in January, his father, a fisherman, brought everyone a catch of fish of the sazanami-buri (type of yellowtail) type. His shisho, after a hearty round of drinks, jokingly said "Let's call him Burinosato!". As sometimes happens, it stuck, and now it's formal. After he dropped from Sandanme to Jonidan, the shisho decided this was the right time to try and change his luck. "I thought it was perchance some kind of a joke at the outset, but now that it's formal, coupled with Baruto's Ozeki promotion, this hopefully might help me climb the banzuke,", quipped the burly Burinosato. "I laughed like crazy..", added the cheerful Ozeki. "It's a good thing we don't have a Mexican rikishi, since they would have called him Burritosato for sure,", I added, without being formally asked.

It's his fourth name change in 7 years of sumo. Some people around him aren't happy. "Have you reached your goals at this point? Shouldn't you wait for a serious promotion before you go changing your name??", was heard whispered in darker alleys.

[Fun fact]- Buri in Japanese-yellowtail

Buri in Hebrew- mullet (not the haircut, the fish) [/Fun fact]

(Sign of approval...) (Laughing...) (Eek...) (Laughing...) (Whatever above, it is funny...)

I have to ask, exactly who were you complaining to about him? :)

Keep the one-liners coming! You must love Japanese "dajare" jokes.

I have a similar experience. In the German-speaking countries, in every building you can find doors marked as "NOTAUSGANG". Always makes me feel a little claustrophobic -- if it's not this one, then where the hell is the freaking Exit...??

My favorite German one is "If he has not fallen, where is the emergency??"

It's a cruel, quasi-Darwinian test of intelligence. (Band playing...)

I have just been informed that a specimen of buri which has not been seen for a long time has just been spotted. It is, of course, the Hisashi-buri.

Burinosato lost his first match under his new shikona yesterday. "It felt good when the yobidashi called out my name!", he said."

Ha ha ha!

Is this the kind of high humour I should aspire to on the forum?

I dunno, I chuckled at the "Haku-Haku" thing just fine, it was just the trite "If you don't find this funny you must not have a sense of humour!!" followup that I found annoying. (Which didn't come from you, of course.)

Though personally I felt you kinda killed the effectiveness of the joke with the "another Mongolian Yokozuna in the future" subheading...

Yeah, true enough. It's all in the delivery.
