Jonosuke 28 Posted May 9, 2010 Matsutani (Juryo East 12, 1-0) over Yamamotoyama by oshidashi ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Pushing out massive Yamamotoyama on his Juryo debut) "During my college years, I faced him a couple of times and won both. But to be honest I was really nervous today. Up here in Juryo, the atmosphere is totally different you know." Tochinonada (0-1) losing to Takamisakairi by hikiotoshi, 2.3 sec -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Returning to Makuuchi as the seventh oldest rikishi to do so since the world war II but downed by Takamisakari today.) "I was moving forward and I felt I was moving well. I just needed to stay more calm." (On his 76th Makuuchi basho) "I don't feel it any differently. My condition is as good as the last basho and I have done decent training prior to the basho. I just want to get on a good groove as quickly as possible." Goeido (0-1) losing to Aran by hatakikomi, 3.2 sec ---------------------------------------------------------- (Coming back from the injury he suffered the last basho but could not get a win) "The pain is not as much as long as I keep moving forward." Tosayutaka (1-0) over Toyohibiki by uwatenage, 29.0 sec ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Falling from head first with Toyohibiki and was determined that Toyohibiki's mage touched the dohyo micro seconds before his and got the monoii win.) "Obviously I cannot see the tip of my mage so I had no idea why the monoii was called in the first place." (Asked about cuts he suffered on his face as a result of the fall.) "What can I say, I don't have much of face to begin with..." Toyohibiki (0-1) losing to Tosayutaka --------------------------------------------- (Losing the monoii decision but was satisfied with the explanation.) "I was rolling over so I really can't tell you one way or another but if they reviewed it and found mine touched first, well then I can live with that." Kisenosato (1-0) over Kakuryu by yoirikiri, 7.0 sec ------------------------------------------------------------- (Outsmarted technical savvy Kakuryu with Gaburi-yori.) "You never know what he would unleash once you let him get away from you." "So far so good. I don't get a good start most basho so I should feel much better about the basho." Tochinoshin (0-1) losing to Baruto by hatakikomi, 2.0 sec -------------------------------------------------------------------- (Overwhelmed by the new ozeki) "I really wanted to grab his mawashi but I couldn't step in close to get it." Baruto (1-0) over Tochinoshin ----------------------------------- (On his first bout as an ozeki) "Well I guess I was a bit tense. While sitting down prior to going up on the dohyo, I was telling myself, it would be over in five minutes. But I won today. I am happy I got the win today. I know that I still have that Tsukioshi move I had the last basho, I just naturally responded with it today." "If I can keep winning, undoubtedly I will start feeling better and can get in a good rhythm. Right now that's what I am aiming for anyway." Tamanoi oyakata (former Ozeki Tochiazuma) ---------------------------------------------------- (On Baruto) "I know he will feel more tension than ever before but he shouldn't get too concerned about it and just go out and be as free wheeling as he used to do." Musashigawa oyakata, Kyokai chairman ----------------------------------------------- (On hearing Baruto Bento sold out completely before anyone else's) "It shows that the fans are expecting from him more of what he has shown us the last basho." Kaio (1-0) over Homaasho by hatakikomi, 2.8 sec ------------------------------------------------------------ (No problem with Homasho's henka move and 3 more wins to career 1000th win in his record breaking 111th Juryo/Makuuchi Basho, the most in sumo history.) "I was stepping forward well today. He came out rather low and ended up in a hatakikomi. I feel I am focusing well on my sumo." Kotomitsuki (0-1) losing to Miyabiyama by hikiotoshi, 5.5 sec ------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Losing at the dohyo edge) "I figured I could have gone on and beat him...I was really focusing on it (hiki-otoshi) but I couldn't respond well. I really can't stand it, it was so close." Toyonoshima (0-1) losing to Kotooshu by yoirkiri, 8.8 sec ----------------------------------------------------------------- (Asked about his engagement) "Well regardless of I got engaged or whatever, I will have do all my best." Harumafuji (0-1) losing to Kotoshogiku by yorikiri, 8.3 sec -------------------------------------------------------------------- (Never liked to face Kotoshogiku and it showed.) "What is this? I don't particularly believe I want to avoid him totally or anything though." (On his left knee which he injured prior to the basho) "Well, today, I just couldn't get inside of him." Kotoshogiku (1-0) over Harumafuji -------------------------------------------- (Now his record against Harumafuji, 18 win and 9 loss.) "I saw Kisenosato (considered to be his rival) displaying a good sumo and I felt I could do no less. " "I am so happy about today's bout, I can't go back to the heya soon enough so I can watch the video until it wears out." (Suffered groin pulls prior to the basho and could not do enough training.) "Well actually it turned out that I had less pressure because of it. Today I didn't back down so as long as I can go on like today, I should be OK." Tochiozan (0-1) losing to Hakuho by yorikiri, 2.8 sec -------------------------------------------------------------- (Overwhelmingly overwhelmed by the power of yokozuna.) "I got bewildered seeing the yokozuna touching his hands first at the shikiri. I wanted to get my left in but my body floated up because he came in with so much power." Hakuho (1-0) over Tochiozan -------------------------------------- (No problem whatsoever against Tochiozan.) "I guess it means I was really psyched up for this Day 1 bout. Today he pulled me in so I just followed him after." (On the pressure of being the lone yokozuna.) "It's quite a bit better than the last basho." (On Mother's Day) "I used to send flowers in the past but right now I believe the best gift I can give to them (his mother and wife) is a win." Chiyonohana, Sandanme ------------------------------ (Being newly assigned yujitori rikishi.) "I think I have done well today. I have done it during jungyo tours too. But tomorrow...." (On Day 2, will need to perform it in front of his shisho, Kokonoe oyakata) "You know, I get a feeling I will make mistakes knowing he is watching me so close." Record: Shimootori - 200th Makuuchi win. Maegashira East 5 Iwakiyama,34, has withdrawn from this basho to receive treatments after suffering from cerebral infarction. He will be focusing the treatment and will require at least two months of treatment and recovery time. "Both Iwakiyama and I have not given up a hope of full recovery and we are trying to get the best treatment possible for full comeback. He has now regained a sense of calmness and is getting back to normal," Sakaigawa oyakata said. === The Kyokai is reporting three non-rikishi will be on kyujo this basho. Fujigane oyakata, 45, will be undergoing a left foot surgery and is requiring two months of treatment and rest. Sewanin Haguroumi, 44, is getting treatment for spinal nerve condition and Makuuchi ranking gyoji Tamajiro Kimura, 49, is suffering from low back problems resulting from a hernia. Both are reportedly requiring one month of recovery. The Kyokai release the names of 17 new recrutis who successfully passed their physical and qualified to start Mae-zumo from May 11. Asojima 2,874 Posted May 9, 2010 (On hearing Baruto Bento sold out completely before anyone else's) Off-topic, but the Baruto bento tasted really good! Maybe YMY thought so too. That would explain the supply problem. (Applauding...)
Umigame 82 Posted May 10, 2010 Tosayutaka (1-0) over Toyohibiki by uwatenage, 29.0 sec(Asked about cuts he suffered on his face as a result of the fall.) "What can I say, I don't have much of face to begin with..." This is funny. I really like Gori's self-deprecating sense of humor. :-(
