Have admitted publicly to baseball gambling

Recommended Posts

Kotomitsuki- has been questioned by the police.

Ootake Oyakata-has been questioned by the police.

Short interview in Japanese, where he essentially says he can't talk about the details right now but that he is not hiding anything or running away and will address all questions in due course.

Ootake beya closing down is a serious possibility, it is being said today. Another specific name thrown in the baseball gambling mix today - Goueidou.

Summary of names that were named:

Admitted: Ootake Oyakata, Kotomitsuki.

Rumored and probably will be admitted too: Toyonoshima, Goueidou.

Had another look at my backstage pics ... 1 Oyakata, 5 sekitori playing somewhat with money in their hands and on the floor, three others watching the game. Will start to make a matching with the "confessors". :-O

Only those that gambled on baseball will make the A- List, yes??

Fresh additions this morning: Tokitsukaze Oyakata, Toyonoshima, Goueidou and Toyohibiki have admitted to BG in writing, according to sources close to the story. Sakaigawa and Tokitsukaze stuck to the new Kyokai template to the last syllable. "I am sorry we have caused such bother. I cannot comment at this time. I am entrusting the matter in the hands of the Kyokai. Please understand this". So far everyone involved has stuck to this text nearly word for word. Amazing, yet not.

No idea who will be on the list in the end ... there may be some overlapping too

Next one who gave his written report is Miyabiyama. He admitted to gamble, although not on baseball, when I understood it right.

Yes, he has admitted to mahjong and cards gambling. The problem here is, of course, that he belongs to the rijicho's heya..

Miyabiyama did not show up for ex-Makuuchi Tamarikidou's danpatsushiki on Saturday, although he was supposed to.

And once gambling has been stamped out, everyone can go back to complaining about how today's generation of rikishi are too lazy and spend all their free time on their Playstations and watching TV. Yay.

Sekihiryu - puts his hand up too for poker tournament, fantasy rugby pools and the World cup sweepstake. Do I get booted off the forum?

Did you disclose this previously on the survey? If not I'm afraid you may be punished!! (Shaking head...)

So, seriously, WHAT do they do now? Shut the sport down? For THIS? Unfortunately there have been worse

things surface in the not too distant past. All the talk about Rikishi taking payoffs to lose matches, steroids and other drugs.

I don't think we need a poll to determine who you trust more, a Rikishi who bets on a board game like Mahjong

or one accepting a 1 million Yen payoff to throw a match.

What IS needed now is for SOMETHING to be done. If this scandal also just slowly fades away, the sport we truly love will have yet another deserved black eye.

Perhaps what is needed is an admission that this is not the 17th Century. There are more temptations, the participants in Sumo from the Beya to the Dohjo have much more money than in the past. Things need to be kept in perspective. 10,000 Yen is $100.00, not even enough to buy a Kobe steak burger for lunch. Does the equivalent of betting a lousy hamburger on a diversion really require the sport to be destroyed?!

I think not!

I don't understand why the just don't break off from the Ministry of Education and become independent, that would be a big step in making this less interesting in the news.

Admitted today-Chiyohakuhou (Kokonoe assumed the verbatim speech maker's role today with his apology) and Miyabiyama, who has now admitted to baseball gambling as well.

So:

Tokitsukaze and Ootake Oyakatas.

Kotomitsuki, Toyonoshima, Goueidou, Miyabiyama, Toyohibiki, Chiyohakuhou. 8 of the 29 are now named, and if we assume Makushita Furuichi did as well, that's 9.

2 rikishi from the 2 very top brass' heyas..

Papers are saying that a harsh punishment is inevitable as nearly half of his deshi are involved. A heya closure is being hinted at.

the next name is Kotoshogiku.

Also revealed in the same spin cycle: Futeno.

And Kiyoseumi. So:

Tokitsukaze and Ootake Oyakatas.

Kotomitsuki, Toyonoshima, Goueidou, Miyabiyama, Toyohibiki, Chiyohakuhou, Kotoshougiku, Futenou and Kiyoseumi. 11 of the 29 are now named, and if we assume Makushita Furuichi did as well, that's 12. (and those 10 from Ounomatsu should make it around 22, but we want names so it stays at 12..)

I couldn't agree more -- but don't you agree that at least part of the problem is within the Ministry of Education (or whatever it is calling itself now)? We have to understand that these so-called bureaucrats failed the entrence exams for the Foreign Ministery, METI, and all the other ministries. Education Ministry officials are right at the bottom of the heap.
