Kotoviki 16 Posted June 21, 2010 the next name is Kotoshogiku. Also revealed in the same spin cycle: Futeno. Unfortunate but I just told a friend yesterday that I'd be surprised if Kotoshogiku wasn't the next one mentioned considering the rest of the group.. and Futeno, no surprise, he hangs out with Toyonoshima all the time, they often play pachinko together too. On another note, what makes me angry is that Pachinko is legal and it is nothing lesser than other gambling so I feel that if they want to crack down on gambling in Japan then they should with conscience shut down pachinko. It is gambling plain and simple!!!
ilovesumo 12 Posted June 21, 2010 Shut it down or legalize it all. A meaningless differentiation makes a rule a farce...
Babaryutaikai 1 Posted June 21, 2010 I must say my jungyo pics were a good indication, all the mentioned rikishi (except Miyabiyama) sitting in the group. Still waiting for the next Oyakata ...tzetzetze, can't the boys read a good book, update their blogs or play with their computers (Laughing...) ;-) I couldn't agree more -- but don't you agree that at least part of the problem is within the Ministry of Education (or whatever it is calling itself now)? We have to understand that these so-called bureaucrats failed the entrence exams for the Foreign Ministery, METI, and all the other ministries. Education Ministry officials are right at the bottom of the heap. Now THAT is VERY interesting, Doreen. So they put all the not-so-intelligent or not-very-good-test-takers in the EDUCATION Minstry, for God's sake? What does that say for the Japanese education system? But that's a topic for another non-sumo thread, methinks (Shaking head...)
Harry 67 Posted June 21, 2010 So, any hint as to the punishments yet? Intais, suspensions? Guess The Banzuke will be interesting indeed though seriously a sad Nagoyabasho if none of the ones mentioned can take part.

Babaryutaikai 1 Posted June 21, 2010 The bottom half of the top percentile...what can be done with those underachievers, eh? The Japanese education system isn't the only one with questionable qualities. (Sign of disapproval...) I think that's universal, particularly in a public school system, but I know my daughter and my son-in-law worked very hard to get their education degrees, cum laude, I might add, while some other just languish in the so-called rubber rooms here,
Fukurou 534 Posted June 22, 2010 Sakaigawa and Tokitsukaze stuck to the new Kyokai template to the last syllable. "I am sorry we have caused such bother. I cannot comment at this time. I am entrusting the matter in the hands of the Kyokai. Please understand this". Just double-checking for typos here - is this Sakaigawa-oyakata (former Komusubi Ryogoku) or current Juryo Sakaizawa? Also, I thought I saw Sanoyama-oyakata (ex-Chiyotaikai) mentioned somewhere, but can't find it now. Am I imagining things on that one?

Kotoviki 16 Posted June 22, 2010 I think there is no more surprise for most of us here who is involved. We know who is friends with who, who hangs out with who... the connections are there, just connect the dots. The big thing is disappointment.......

ilovesumo 12 Posted June 22, 2010 At least I am angry at the massmedia and not at the Rikishi. In the last years, it felt like a smear campaign to kill Sumo. Yes, society changed, Sumo didn't want to change much, but it went too far and if they make the NSK shut down, there will be a blondy protesting in front of the main buildings of NHK and so on... Jakusotsu 5,960 Posted June 22, 2010 So, the people you hang out with each and every day, who taught you each and every move, whom you were told to obey each and every time, ask you to join their game, and suddenly you're caught with your hand in the cookie jar and face detention, only because you were expected to question their integrity just this once? Kafka would be proud...

It's easy to put all the blame on the media. But I think we all expect investigation and clarification from the press. It's not the media who violated the law, reasonable or not. And if organized crime is involved all should be more than pleased that investigations are initiated.

ilovesumo 12 Posted June 22, 2010 Just mailed with a Japanese friend who follows Sumo for about 60 years. She wrote that it's a shame how those opinion building shows work and smash Sumo. Some (only god knows why) popular people with mostly no connection to Sumo talk about the scandals and suggest what "should be done"...
Hakuyobaku 33 Posted June 22, 2010 So basically - I was wondering - all the 'publicly admitted to baseball gambling' rikishi will have the same punishment? And that, I guess, is sitting out Nagoya basho (holding which is still questionable)? Involving a handful of sekitori including joi-jin and ozeki, that will be a very strange basho. Plus, there may be other(injured) rikishi kyujo too (Is Kotooshu sitting this one out, surgery)? Also, is Kotomitsuki getting some kind of harsher treatment because of his higher status/rank? It's not the media who violated the law, reasonable or not. And if organized crime is involved all should be more than pleased that investigations are initiated. The media is doing exactly what we want them to, make a lot of noise and share as much information and maybe a little mistaken misinformation, so that we get a clue what is going on. the more blood in the water, the more sharks you get, and wow, this is a blood bath. it seems all day long, as least one TV channel was running a story on this, and since anyone on TV is a expert by default, everyone is an expert. one thing though, all this stink is making Asashoryu look like a saint! he only punched a guy! Disappointment at them betting on baseball, or disappointment at them getting caught? Hmmmm really I have no problem with the gambling. People have been doing it for ages. Really what they do on their own time is their business, IMHO. So what I am disappointed in I guess is that they got caught, that there is such a big deal about it.... worried who I won't see in Nagoya basho..??
