I consider the most recent Waka to be Waka II.

Your original Waka III post was clearly aimed at telling us that another existed before most / all of us were born and the numbers were therefore wrong. (am I mistaken?)

I guess the first Wakanohana doesn't count. Or maybe it's the current Magaki Oyakata who doesn't count. I understand, they both were only Yokozuna after all.

Ah, and I voted for Takanonami. (Lest I get accosted for only posting a comment and not voting...)

Fair enough. But be prepared to be misunderstood then, because he is the third yokozuna Wakanohana. Apparently it's the wrong time to ask this question since Asashoryu is on his zensho and thus clearly has the most votes. I'm looking forward to seeing this question asked again after 5 years, or maybe even 2 years.

I voted for Terao. Clearly he is not even in the same class record-wise as most of the list, but for a man his size in the era of the HUGE rikishi he finished up in, he showed more skill and technique than many of them. I always found it kind of funny to watch him facing the likes of Kotonowaka, Akebono, Konishiki, etc....

i believe that in two years Asa will have more fans than now because by then his dominance will be undisputed.

He is getting better basho by basho and not even Kaio (his main nemesis) can beat him anymore.

Takanohana was not to my liking in his good days but i had to accept his greatness and consider him one of the best of all time.The same will go with Asa.

But that doesn't necessarily mean anything in a poll like this. The question is who is our favourite rikishi, not who we think is best. Of course I accept the greatness of such rikishi as Asashoryu and Takanohana, but neither of them will be my favourite rikishi no matter how many decades will pass.

Btw, I think Chiyotaikai is missing in the poll answers... Some might want to vote for him...

I sincerely hope that noone believes that I think Toki is the "best" sumotori. He is my favourite, that's all... B-)
