Kintamayama 44,650 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) An 18 year old Mongolian rikishi, Kengou belonging to Nishonoseki beya was found unconscious in the bathroom this morning. An ambulance was called and he was taken to the hospital, but he is still unconscious. According to police he received a head injury during keiko two days ago and took yesterday off. He did some keiko early this morning, but his situation deteriorated and was vomiting in the bathroom. There was no visible injury, but he has undergone surgery as he was found to have a hematoma. Kengou just entered sumo this Haru. Edited October 9, 2010 by Kintamayama
Itachi 395 Posted September 9, 2010 Kengo was 3-1 in maezumo during the Natsu basho and 6-1 in Nagoya as a new rikishi on the banzuke. He's listed at 185cm and 116kg at Jd63 for this tournament. Considering his age, all that sounds pretty promising. Hopefully he can make a full recovery and safely resume his career.
Kintamayama 44,650 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) "Right acute subdurmal hematoma" is a better diagnosis I think. The tumor was removed and no external damage was spotted. "He had 5 training bouts and then did some shiko when he suddenly felt ill. The doctor says he may suffer from after-effects after the operation so it's a really serious situation," said Nishonoseki Oyakata. Kengou has yet to regain consciousness. I think you mean subdural, which would be between the lining of the skull and the lining of the brain. The surgeon(s) would have removed a clot, and repaired torn or ruptured veins. Mortality in acute cases can be 60-80%, so if he pulls through he's a lucky man.

Either that, or as usual, I have no idea what I'm on about anymore. Edited September 10, 2010 by Kintamayama
