The only tachiai I missed in my recordings (of course..)-and this happens. To me it looked rather serious, as it looked like he was throwing up in the hanamichi- concussion? You're watching NHK so you have a much better perspective than me, but watching this it looks bad-he seems to vomit at around 1:23, and two service people come running to clean it up with plastic bags, or maybe not.. On the video replays it looked like Shironoyu's arm clearly hit the dirt first. Yet after the mono-ii, Shironoryu was named the winner. WTF? Takanohana-oyakata gave no explanation on the mic -- he just said they decided in favor of Shironoryu. Anyone else surprised at this? Do they not consult the video for non-makuuchi bouts? I found a Japanese blog that says the video playback showed the heel of Toyonoshima's foot just barely touched the dirt first. Japanese blog "Ozumo Torikumi Naiyou" Well I guess that clears it up. It's debatable to me whether his heel touched, but at least it's a reason. I don't see why the shinpan didn't mention it. BTW that Japanese blog gives a text play-by-play of every sekitori bout. I totally agree with you. I was surprised as well after seeing the replay. We can see how careful Toyonoshima was with his foot on the tawara. Asked about what happened, Hokutoriki said, "It wasn't a concussion. It was a temporary 'hernia of the neck' (首のヘルニア)." All the impact [of the tachiai] went to the neck. I couldn't sense anything below the neck . I am glad it wasn't a [serious] injury." Robo's knockout tachiai Takamisakari in the dressing room: "I was wooly-headed during the [nine-bout] losing streak. I would go shopping and I would go to the movies.
