As of December 2010, Yamamotoyama is listed as being at 266.0 kgs on the NSK website.

He was once in Makunouchi, but has now dropped down to Makushita. How will 2011 pan out for him?

Please comment with your predictions below, so we can reflect at the end of 2011.

I think...

upper Makushita.

Four KK bashos

260 - 270 kgs

My initial thought was intai, but I think he will have 2 decent bashos (maybe a yusho) and at least 2 kyujos. He will end up in mid to high makushita.

My guess is going off the hope he recovers from his injuries.. He's too strong for Makushita and too heavy for Makuuchi. I think he'll have 4 KK and wind up in lower Juryo.

4 KK, 1 "real" MK and one basho in which absences push him into makekoshi territory...assuming that's a 2-1-4 type of record rather than another 0-0-7, I'll go with makushita-joi as his 2012 starting rank, otherwise lower makushita. (My poll vote was for makushita-joi.) I don't think he's currently "together" enough to make it back to sekitoriland from Ms48-ish in just a year...

Weight: 251-260. I feel that he'll drop some, but not nearly as much as he'd need.

Intai, no KK, and I'm missing a "will not be at the January 2012 weigh-in since he will have been retired by then" option which I would support.

Very good point :-)

Is there a way to modify polls?

Lower Juryo, 4KK and 250-260kgs. I really hope that he recovers. It is fun to see full size Japanese rikishi.

I think editing the original (first) post should do the trick. You as the topic-starter should be able to do that.

Done! :-)

I see him as being no more than a lower juryo/upper makushita elevator rikishi at best. No more than two KK. I don't see him losing much weight either, though he desperately needs to.

Well he's not exactly getting back to even upper makushita anytime soon if he has just 2 KK in the next 6 tournaments...

YMY is no Konishiki, ergo I hereby declare he will never reach Ozeki.

quoting myself there from Sept'08.

Was never convinced by YMY and I am not at all surprised.

Lower makushita

2

262-270

and I think that's optimistic.

So we expect YMY to rise a bit - up to upper Makushita or possibly lower Juryo.

We think he may end up 4 (but none of us will go higher) KKs.

We also think that he will lose some weight - possibly going down to 251 - 260 kgs.

Time to start revisiting the annual polls....

Well, Yamamotoyama is intai - but not through choice. 33% of us guessed this correctly.

He won't be weighed in January 2012 - 33% of us guessed that (probably the same people as above).

He didn't get a single KK in 2011, which two players predicted. In fact he didn't get a single win! He didn't even have a single bout!

Kintamayama mentioned all three in his comments, and so takes 1st prize (Yusho winner...).

Gusoyama comes second, I think. (In jonokuchi...)
