East Juryo 12 HOKUTORIKI Edited January 22, 2011 by Fukurou
Raishu 208 Posted January 7, 2011 East Juryo 12 HOKUTORIKI Oh dear! In case he won't return during the middle of the basho a demotion can't be avoided at all. Additionally, I recognized he went down 14kg from 150 to 136. I hope I simply misinterpret this development ;-)
Kotononami 86 Posted January 7, 2011 Anyone knows what's the problem with Hokutoriki almost four months after being knocked-out in his Takamisakari's bout?
madorosumaru 7 Posted January 7, 2011 Anyone knows what's the problem with Hokutoriki almost four months after being knocked-out in his Takamisakari's bout? The situation with Hokutoriki is pretty dire. He aggravated a neck injury when KO'd by Robo in Aki. The injury is quite severe, and from what I have heard, he hasn't been able to work out much at all--thus the weight loss. In fact, there were rumors that he was confined to a wheelchair for a while. The general opinion is that he won't come back. He already owns the Tanigawa myoseki, which is currently on loan to Kaiho. It would be a matter of finding another kabu for Kaiho to borrow. Asashosakari 19,653 Posted January 8, 2011 I suspect that list has omitted Yamamotoyama, as there's a three-rikishi gap in the Day 1 schedule: Ms47w Takakiho Ms48e Musashiumi Ms48w Yamamotoyama For one of these there's no spot in the corresponding Day 2 schedule. I'm sure the Kyokai will get around to fixing it sometime before the bouts.

I'm sure the Kyokai will get around to fixing it sometime before the bouts. As of yesterday it was not clear whether Yamamotoyama will be absent or not. He may be lucky just to have an extra day to decide.. Even if he enters he's obviously not healed well enough to compete without risk of more injury! :-D but he certainly doesn't want to fall to sandame. I will call him later and post back if he's made any decision yet!!! As for Takakiho I haven't gotten any bad news from him via email so I do hope he's ok!!! ilovesumo 12 Posted January 9, 2011 Other Absences: Fans with less money - the "no more first floor for you"-thing goes on in the Kokugikan. No new year - new start. Yes, we are all ヤクザみたいね。 Especially older fellows cannot see anything from the second floor. To me, the possibility for people with less money - watching the early hours from the first floor was some heart-generosity, just like free keiko or the ozzz from a big guy on his bike...ruined by monbusho. Big thanks.

Asashosakari 19,653 Posted January 9, 2011 Thank you for catching this. No changes on the kyujo list yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it too. Turns out I was too optimistic for the web staff's error-fixing capabilities. In any case, Yamamotoyama is the one who's not on the Day 2 torikumi.

Fukurou 534 Posted January 9, 2011 Tosanoumi''s retirement was announced on the first day on NHK. Yeah, that was announced last month, although too late for him to be removed from the current banzuke. For those who want to know more, here's a link to that thread. Kotoviki 16 Posted January 9, 2011 Today's three Fusen boys were "byoki kyujo" and they were two back to back and one a few minutes later. We joked it was like some crazy epidemic! I did speak with Yamamotoyama late last night and he said he & the oyakata were still deciding and luckily he had the first day off.... but he certainly didn't seem like he could enter this basho!! (Poking the other guy...)
Asashosakari 19,653 Posted January 9, 2011 I did speak with Yamamotoyama late last night and he said he & the oyakata were still deciding and luckily he had the first day off... But that's just not how it works. You cannot decide to enter the basho on Day 2 (or 4, 6, etc.) because the lower-division schedule is drawn up for two days at once. The second day's just isn't published right away.

The first day's torikumi is made earlier so therefore he had a chance to decide whether to withdraw on day 2 until today. YMY could still have some miracle hope that he could wake up able today without withdrawing from Monday!! From now they'll always have two day's lower division torikumi each day. For instance this afternoon I got tomorrow's torikumi but tomorrow afternoon I'll get Tuesday's full torikumi and Wednesday's lower division torikumi. Anyway I'm really sorry for him!! That injury in Nagoya really did him in!

But he isn't on the Day 2 schedule, and it was already clear before Day 1 that he wouldn't be on it. I'm not entirely clear on the procedural stuff, i.e. whether oyakata need to confirm absences or participations before a basho, but whatever Onoe did, it resulted in the schedule committee treating YMY as absent for the first two days. That they didn't give you the Day 2 schedule right away doesn't mean it didn't exist. Based on the kyujo list (when it's correct, anyway) and the Day 1 bouts you can predict the Day 2 bouts with 100% accuracy. Add West Makushita 48 YAMAMOTOYAMA to your scorecard as being absent from day 1. Edited January 10, 2011 by Fukurou
Kotoviki 16 Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) I have news about Yamamotoyama if anyone wants to know it but I won't post it on the forum. If you want to know what happened (as I finally had a chance to talk with him in much more detail today) I'm happy to tell you just pm me or message me on facebook and I'll tell you the sad news... It also includes the reason why he wasn't absent from day 1 originally but he thought he would be able to enter from day 2.... (In a state of confusion...)
