Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted May 10, 2011 Would you consider keeping your predictions in a single thread, rather than make a new one every day? I don't see the daily results posted in a single thread... Sure, but at least he could reply to the daily results (and next days pairings) postings instead of cluttering up the Honbasho forum with low interest threads. A single thread would be better I think.

Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted May 10, 2011 What's your basis for this claim, besides personal disinterest? This thread has about as many views as your Day 2 lower division results post... It's not personal disinterest actually. But looking at the view count is a very superficial thing here as those aren't unique views. Threads with several replies strung out over a few hours tend to get viewed multiple time from the same readers which counts to the displayed view count as well. Since no one replied to the day 2 lower division post it's unlikely many people viewed it more than once.

Haruibono 11 Posted May 13, 2011 Well it seems that we've scared Haruibono away, so problem solved! ;-) It saddens me that some of the posters on this thread think that an 11year old western boy's predictions are of "low interest" and not worthy of posting. Isn't the reason of a forum on a topic, to encourage thoughts and postings, wide and varied, accurate or not I go through this forum and read most threads, and a lot of them do not interest me, but I would never consider my interests to be those of everyone. Haribono is very disappointed that the JSA chose to cancel the TV and the Natsu basho, thus canceling the Sumo Game, and I encouraged him to read and participate in this forum. I thought that it was a clean moderate site that would encourage any person with an avid interest in sumo, as he is, and living half way round the world, he gets little opportunity to join other interested people. Between adults (I am Haribono's grandmother) I'm disappointed that because he may have posted his predictions in the wrong thread, his thoughts are not considered worthy. Have a good day. Between adults (I am Haribono's grandmother) I'm disappointed that because he may have posted his predictions in the wrong thread, his thoughts are not considered worthy. Have a good day. (Laughing...) On many sports fora there exists a cardinal rule: "Nobody cares about your fantasy team." While I wouldn't go quite that far, the fact of the matter is that people read this section of the forum primarily for news and discussion about the actual basho, and a simple list of winners' guesses is far too unfocussed to generate discussion about anything but the person making the guesses. In addition, this section gets a lot of traffic and it's difficult to find things as it is, so 15 different threads only about one member's predictions are somewhat inadvisable. Because of that, and because it would be easier to follow along for those people who may actually be interested in Haruibono's predictions, I suggested collecting them in a single thread. Nothing more, nothing less. Unfortunately, the forum's resident mindless contrarian then decided to interject for no particular reason and...well. (Nice job, Joe.) Asashosakari 19,649 Posted May 13, 2011 So because I stuck up for the guy, I'm to blame for hurt feelings? That is an awfully bizarre leap of logic to make... Sometimes things are better left unexplained; your comment forced them to be explained. Worse, your silly comparison to the daily results posts (something with wide audience appeal) forced the explanation to be less pretty and more demotivating than it otherwise would have been, as without your interruption it could have simply been left at "people will be able to follow your predictions more easily if they're in one thread instead of 15." Please, just stay out of forum administrivia stuff. You've proven time and again that you don't have any clue about how and why this forum works, and this time you've actually caused collateral damage. Doesn't matter that you tried to "stick up for the guy", but then again it's hardly the first time you've demonstrated that you're more interested in "doing something" rather than "doing the right thing". Are you an Administrator, Moderator, or Owner of this forum? If so, then I have nothing more to say. If not, then who the heck are you to judge the merit of a post that is perfectly on topic for "Honbasho Talk"? (note: not "Honbasho News")
Sashohitowa 6 Posted May 13, 2011 Why should anybody be insulted by a suggestion to keep a certain topic in one thread? I rememeber when Fukurou handled the Withdrawal tracking in separate threads, then the forum members expressed oppinion that it's easier for everybody to read if it is in one thread, so he/she changed it. No fuss about it at all. Of course separate topics themselves don't break the rules and therefore (correctly, imho) are not moderated -- but why a simple (and reasonable, again imho) suggestion from Asashosakari needed to develop into such discussion including hurt feelings etc. -- this I don't understand. I think the whole thing was unnecessarily aggravated by Peteraow's 'problem sorted' and other posts. Haruibono is perfectly welcome to continue posting as far as I'm concerned and I hope that he will. Peteraow's posts mostly seem to be about proving what a big person he is, but I think that the young man of 11 shows more maturity in his every post. Please don't penalise him for enthusiasm! Haruibono - don't let all this nonsense drive you away. I think that the suggestion that you post your predictions in a single thread is a good one. Probably when you are playing sekitori toto next basho you won't want to share your predictions with the opposition anyway. :-) Edited May 13, 2011 by Naganoyama

Manekineko 200 Posted May 15, 2011 Quick question. How do you delete a topic ? (Applauding...) I don't think a user can delete the topic (even if there is only his own post in it). The best you can do is delete the content of the original post, and ask a moderator to delete the topic for you. The moderator may or may not do so, depending on his own judgement. (Applauding...) If the topic already has a life of its own (numerous replies from other Forumers), it will probably not be deleted...
