Naganoyama 5,948 Posted November 24, 2011 Today was obviously a day for rolling. It was also a day for bouts with utterly ridiculous denouements. Rikishi seemed to be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory left and right at one stage.
Vikanohara 171 Posted November 24, 2011 3rd bout winner was to see whether we were paying attention, right ? And 2nd bout loser surely must fall out of Makuuchi now. Finally.
ChrisC 7 Posted November 24, 2011 Great to see Takanoyama closing in on kachi-koshi. I hope he can get back to makuuchi
shumitto 418 Posted November 24, 2011 Good job and good blast from the past, too. Kaisei can look so like a robot. Sadly he is not the only one.
yorikiried by fate 2,029 Posted November 24, 2011 I think I asked already once, Moti. What are you using for cutting the videos? And are you satisfied?
Kintamayama 45,530 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) I think I asked already once, Moti. What are you using for cutting the videos? And are you satisfied? I take it from your question that you're not satisfied.. I'm just doing a quick "in-out"- I don't want to get too deeply into this- or too artistic or exact. I'm way too old to learn new tricks. I'm the one doing the cutting, not the software, so the blame is squarely on my shoulders. I'm using Windows Movie Maker and actually am quite happy with the results, given the time it takes me. I know there is a sea of great software out there, but I simply can't be bothered. OTOH, if someone else were to take over and do a more serious job, I'd happily return to just enjoying the bouts... [Jeez... Do I come across as such a grumpy fart?] I didn't want to insinuate anything at all. Pure curiosity as my only own experience with movie cutting went very ugly (with Premiere Elements btw). Therefore, I was genuinely interested in your method. As it is, I happen to like the results of your work very much.

ChrisC 7 Posted November 25, 2011 Great work on the videos. I wouldn't miss them. How many times has Aran started with a henka this basho?
Ruziklao 34 Posted November 25, 2011 Ikioi pirouette (Neener, neener...) For me it looked in Asasekiryu-Tokitenku bout like no hair (mage) pulling, more like pushing the whole head with open palm. Also Myogiryu is fighting fiercely forward everytime. Bulky Gagamaru looks like he is lacking the power too often. It is interesting how Baruto manages to collect the power and unleash push-out or carry-out attack after long standing in the middle of the dohyo, it is not the first time this basho. (Showing respect...) And Kotooshu has made Hakuho fight for the yusho...
Jakusotsu 6,049 Posted November 25, 2011 And Kotooshu has made Hakuho fight for the yusho... Let me put it that way: Hakuho had some fun with Osh to please the crowds.
Treblemaker 254 Posted November 25, 2011 That dohyo surface has looked progressively worse each day... The footing up there must be treacherous. If anyone has been to this basho, could they bring some light on this? No wonder lots of guys are gingerly stepping out to perhaps avoid injury. I forget which matches, but there were at least two where the rikishi were locked belt-to-belt, and yet their feet were sliding laterally as if there were indeed on sand at a beach volleyball game. Hak was definitely playing with Osh. If you're going to win a basho, make it look good. He did. Gaga is falling into the YMY syndrome: Great bulk does NOT guarantee a KK. No upper body strength. Not much lateral movement, either. Enjoyed Kitataiki's spirit this basho. Going over the edge to get a win repeatedly is a sign of good sumo. Poor Kokkai. Gets no breaks. Rōnin 0 Posted November 25, 2011 And Kotooshu has made Hakuho fight for the yusho... Let me put it that way: Hakuho had some fun with Osh to please the crowds. And I had fun watching it. I was rooting for Kotooshu, but the Yokazuna's shitatenage was glorious! (I am not worthy...)

Treblemaker 254 Posted November 27, 2011 Tenku unleashes Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother of all Henkas! Gidake clearly needs more experience. Miyabiyama floats like butterfly, but when he starts to go down, seems to take forever to finally land. Like slow-motion landslide. Sagat + Yoshi = midget wrestling. Noshin + Aran = Noshine shows good sumo offense by backing himself out of dohyo? Gagamaru performs usual bout. Fights well, then drops like very large rock. For no real reason. Then shows his angst. Why? Stay on feet, win bout. Easy. And stop rolling!! It seems that at least 80% of bouts this basho follow same pattern: Aggressor of bout suddenly loses. Why? Kakuryu shows same thing. In charge of everything until suddenly loses. Happening a lot. Why? Nice throw by Baruto, followed by lovely, dainty cartwheel as if done by young girl. Ends up squarely in Chief Judge's lap. Lovely. Why do almost all of HF's bouts feature some display of gravity-defying (and logic-defying) gyronetics? I know Asa owns a circus, but.... Still, very nice of Hakuho to join HF on the next flight out of town. Surface of dohyo still looks like surface of moon. Somewhere there's a flag stuck in it. kuroimori 1,634 Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) Tenku unleashes Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother of all Henkas! Gidake clearly needs more experience. Well, it would help a lot if he would just starts watching Kinta's videos on a daily basis ;-) Everytime TokICKtenku crouches at the tachi-ai I almost start to feel a kind of phantom pain in my right shin bone...
