That was a pretty weird day, the humourous comments were particularly strong in this one :)

kinta you missed out though on the opportunity of saying that "Homasho stepped on a particularly loud mouse when he stepped off the dohyo" at 5:20 (Sign of approval...)

That annoying woman is very annoying. Lucky I'm not around when she comes.

(Was that too much?) (Shaking head...)

I dunno...Hak lines up way behind the shikirisen, telegraphing his intention to HMF that he's coming in fast and strong like a raging bull. Is it any wonder TheRikishiFormerlyKnownAsAma henka'd?! The go-no-sen taichiai guy suddenly goes on the offensive, but just to be clear lets everyone know in advance... (Shaking head...)

I did point that out on my video commentary..

Quite rightly, IMO...

And I don't know. I went back and watched some of Hak's other bouts this time around, and while he's a LITTLE further back here than he's been, it's not by all that much.

It was far enough for me, and I don't usually notice this stuff. I saw it coming a mile off. I told myself (no one was home..) he was screwing himself royally. It all happened as if in slow motion. I smiled to myself, content, and ate some more mushrooms.

It is a pity that Tochinoshin lost that one, it was indeed very worthy utchari try. It seemed to me like his heel might have been out in the process.

This basho (and last one too) Hakuho has been on the offensive (and the "Go with the Flow" philosophy has completely disappeared), and this leaves him wide open to what happened today. Still, knowing HF as well as he does, it was either beautifully planned on HF's part, or beautifully executed on Hak's part.

And I daresay we're not done yet... Still to come is Baruto and Origami. Look for Hak to come up at least 12-3. And don't give this yusho to Baruto yet. The best action is yet to come.

While I'm glad to see the yusho go to someone other than Hakuho, and am particularly happy it's Baruto, I have to wonder what's wrong with Hakuho. He didn't look at all like himself tonight. Is that toe injury bothering him, or is there something else that's not been mentioned?

Takanoyama has a snowball's chance in hell of getting his kachi-koshi. That's... moderately surprising.

Congratulations to Baruto he looked really solid all the way through, his strength is awesome, lifting kotoshogiku like that must have made certain he'l spend the rest of the day in bed recovering hehe :)

Nice to see Tochinoshin get his kachi-koshi, well deserved i think, i have a couple of questions, when was the last time Hakuho lost three bouts in a tournament? and secondly how many bouts is it acceptable for a Yokozuna to lose in each basho?

I'm happy for Baruto but i don't want the Yokozuna to lose his aura of invincibility, i'm a big fan of Hakuho and not because of his rank, i like the way he carries himself, i hope this is just a blip in his performance.

Thank you kintamayama :)

I guess then you will be incredibly disappointed as historically the median result for a yokozuna since 1950 is 12-3 (51-103-115-113-106-84-42-20-131 going from 15 wins to 7 or less (usually physical or pride injuries but even two actual 7-8). I suppose a 12-3 is also is what still is an acceptable score but anything less is frowned upon.

For your first question, just look long and hard at the white and black circles. Actually his last 12-3 wasn't that long ago, in Nagoya last year.

Wow, i was under the impression he had fewer losses, i guess his aura of invincibility must come just as much from his poise and bearing as from his wins :)

I'm not "incredibly disappointed" as you put it at all to find the median for a Yokozuna has been 12-3, i just didn't want Hakuho to face having to retire, (i seem to remember reading somewhere a yokozuna cannot be demoted, only retire) but now that you told me that 3 losses is more or less the limit and acceptable for a Yokozuna, i'm confident he won't get more than 3 losses in any basho, at least not often i hope :)

Thank you for the answer Doitsuyuma.
