Video Stream - Natsu 12

Recommended Posts

The NSK should once again provide a live internet video stream of the action in ALL divisions every day of the Natsu basho. The link(s) should go active at about 8:20 AM Japan Standard time with the Jonokuchi division (10:00 AM on days 13-15) and continue through the end of the Makuuchi Division at about 6:00 PM.

To watch the action, you need a high capacity (non-dialup) internet link and Microsoft Media Player or an equivalent ( many use VLC ).

The links to get to it are:

Link 1 : http://sumo.goo.ne.j...sx/sumolive.asx

Link 2 : http://mfile.akamai....4756.asx?prop=a

and

mms1 - mms://a757.l12513444756.c125134.a.lm.akamaistream.net/D/757/125134/v0001/reflector:44756

mms2 - No longer used.

Links 1 and 2 are usable with WMP and most others. On some systems, WMP will not play the mms1 link, but VLC and others can handle it. If you try to open any of the links before the NSK activates them for the day, you will get a connect error message. Keep trying.

The links are useable on iPhone4 using Good Player and on Samsung Galaxy S II using Vplayer. Other similar devices may also handle the links. Reports on other devices would be appreciated.

The approximate start times for each division through day 12 should be:

Jk - 08:30 - 08:45 AM JST

Jd - 09:00 AM

Sd - 11:20 AM

Ms - 1:40 PM

Juryo - 3:05 PM

Mk - 4:20 PM

Dohyo-iri: Juryo 2:40 PM, Mk 3:50 PM

All times are +/- 15 minutes

Days 2-4 may have maezumo matches for about 10 minutes before Jk.

Days 13-15 have fewer matches per day. Jk should start at about 10:30 AM on days 13/14 and at 10:00 AM on Day 15.

Enjoy!!

Still the reduced bitrate we started to get on Haru Day 3, I guess it's here to stay. Still very watchable, of course, but I preferred the 500+ kbit from before.

I'm only getting sound when the person holding the microphone speaks, same as last basho, a minor gripe of course as being able to watch is the main thing :) but just thought i'd mention it in case someone else had the same problem and thought it was just on their end.

Same here, it is definitely on the broadcasting side - really annoying new feature they came up with >:-(

I dunno, maybe they got inspired by the movie "The Artist"...

Seems they fixed that! (Do they follow this thread?)

The ranks are messed up in the graphics. They are only including the last digit of the rank. i.e., Wjd84 is coming out as Wjd4.

Edit: Fixed about 1/2 way through Sandanme.

I love watching the crowd's reaction crazy as that sounds hehe, i still remember the look of pure happiness on one older gentleman's face when Takanoyama pulled off a spectacular win some basho's ago, with the reduced bit-rate the people's faces are fuzzy now :-( having said that, the stream is free and it'd be wrong of me to look a gift-horse in the mouth, as you say, still highly watchable and much appreciated that i get to watch at all :-)

Edit* wow, Chiyotairyu has a very natural talent for balance doesn't he?

Just saw a small advert for the sumo song with the chicken mascot and oyakata's singing, can't get that song out of my head any time i hear it, very catchy :)

Here it is again courtesy of Asashosakari's youtube channel:

It seemed like from that false start, he might have had the shin-makuuchi jitters, though. ;-)

Downgrade in quality. And just as I was starting to be able to tell their faces apart too. (In past times when each face was one gargantuan pixel, I rarely had a clear idea of what anyone looked like.)

Something odd that bothers me for about a year now (and have probably been asking before):

There's one particular yobidashi around Sanyaku who's chanting always gets muted in the stream. Does anyone here have an idea why?

Yeah, I noticed that as well, it is particularly odd because there is a Jonokuchi & lower Jonidan yobidashi who annoys me a little: he hasn't found the typical melodic tune (yet), sometimes he doesn't get the names right and on top of that he seems to be caught in a horrible puberty vocal change (no offense to the guy, it just sounds to me like he doesn't really enjoy what he's doing)

Surprised nobody has remarked on it yet - the 550 kbit stream is back. (Sign of approval...)

Of course, that means I can add 50% to my upload times, too...

I was just thinking this to myself now but because my eyes are so bad i thought it was my imagination! depending on how i get up i get all sorts of weird bitrates for my own eyeballs :-D

Looked like there were a lot of empty seats today.

Unusual to see the gold hat guy down near the hanamichi, especially as there looked to be empty pews in his usual area.

I wonder why also and wanted to ask here so registered at last, because I couldn't find anything about him here when searching his name, Katsuyuki (Katsuyuki Koyama), Sanyaku yobidashi from Hanaregoma beya. Only muted in a Tokyo basho, I think.
