I would have expected Aoiyama to be higher than Aminishiki. Everything else seem right.

Myogiryu looks set to stay there for a long time, judging by his sumo lately. He needs some self-confidence and could easily be an Ozeki in a year or so!

Looks like I once again underestimated Shotenro's status as the golden banzuke boy...ahead of Gagamaru and Toyohibiki, seriously?

This I can actually understand as it was close. I have an issue with Miyabiyama only going down to M9e with a 4-11 from M5w, only 3.5 ranks. At least Tamaasuka really should have been ahead of him.

Don't have my guess handy, but I think I had him at M12e or so... In any case, the current committee seems much less afraid of handing out smallish demotions in order to fill spots, e.g. also in juryo where I was convinced Hokutokuni had to go to J4w out of sheer necessity, but instead Asahisho/Yoshiazuma/Fujiazuma all got lucky. That's what makes Shotenro's jump so puzzling, it's out of whack with the rest of the banzuke-making.

He just got married. That's worth at least 1.5 ranks.

I had Myogiryu in sanyaku, then I swapped him with Kyokutenho. I figured the yusho would just push Kyok over the line. It didn't :-/ I'm also surprised Ikioi got the nod over Asasekiryu.

FWIW I had Miyabiyama @ M10w & Shotenro @ M7e so only half a rank out.

Myogiryu looks very good indeed, but he is yet to figure out what to do against the Yokozuna and the two european Ozeki. He looked helpless in all his bouts against them. Perhaps matter of self-confidence as you say.

I am very pleased to see Myogiryu and Aoiyama at K1 and M2 after all that have been said about "too old" newcomers having little chances to go climb to the top when they both started in 2009 at age of 23. Admitedly they were lucky to get faster promotion with the mobile yaocho scandal, but that was small part of the equation.

Aoiyama in joijin makes me very happy indeed. Not only because I'm happy for him, but also because it means quite good chances to see at least one all-bulgarian bout. That's something I didn't have much hopes for when Daniel arrived in Japan both because I wasn't very confident he can reach Makuuchi at all and because Kotooshu was already in "might retire soon" stage of his career. I wish him stay few years more, but with his injuries and age this doesn't sound very likely.

I also had doubts about Aoiyama initially, but he gained a lot of weight and power over the last 2 years. He created his own style and strategy, which was lacking in his early makushita days. I hear he is nearing the 180kg, which is a good 30kg from the time he arrived. Even if he doesn't do well this time around (nerves and everything), he should find positives and keep growing!

Chalk up another one for my "been there before" supposition. (A couple of German chatters know what I mean...)
