Asashosakari 19,331 Posted July 21, 2012 Day 14: A lot of decisions were settled today, headed by Kotoshogiku's 10th win to reach his LKS basho target. The two unanimous KK picks in makushita split their decisions, with collegiate Irie posting his 7th straight KK since debuting, while Wakamisho hit the wall at last. Fukamiyama's quest in low sandanme also came to an end, after five consecutive 4-3's it's only a 3-4 this time. Leaving aside the two obvious decisions the best day was had by Vikanohara with correct predictions on both Giku and Fukamiyama, while Kameumi missed on both. Here are the penultimate standings: Day 14: 13/16 Decisions, TB 12-13 Pos Player Pts TB 1 kuroimori 9 18 1 Profomisakari 9 15 3 Achiyama 8 17 3 Asashosakari 8 14 3 Vikanohara 8 16 6 Jejima 7 15 6 Mmikasazuma 7 6 Pandaazuma 7 14 9 Fay 6 10 Asojima 5 15 10 Kameumi 5 16 The remaining three decisions will rest on Takanoiwa in a tough KK decider against yusho-chasing Jokoryu, and a direct matchup between Kisenosato and Kotooshu - winner reaches his target, loser doesn't. Unsurprisingly Kameumi is now out of the yusho race after today's results. Profomisakari is also out - both he and Kuroimori have the same remaining picks, but Kuroimori will win on the second bracket via Fukamiyama. However, Jejima is still in. He'll need a loss by Takanoiwa and an Osh victory to grab the yusho, via bracket decision on Kei. On the other hand, if both decisions fail to go Jejima's way, he'll even finish makekoshi. Asashosakari 19,331 Posted July 22, 2012 Senshuraku: And the winner is...Kuroimori! Jejima got what may have been the harder part of the day (Osh beating Kise), but it was already all over for him after Takanoiwa had secured his last-second kachikoshi. Day 15: 16/16 Decisions, TB 13 Pos Player Pts TB 1 kuroimori 10 18 2 Profomisakari 10 15 2 Vikanohara 10 16 4 Achiyama 9 17 4 Asashosakari 9 14 4 Mmikasazuma 9 0 4 Pandaazuma 9 14 8 Fay 8 0 8 Jejima 8 15 10 Asojima 7 15 10 Kameumi 7 16 For the records, the yusho playoff: - All three players missed the tie-break prediction (as did everybody else). - All are wrong on the 1st bracket (Kotooshu+), then Profomisakari is eliminated on the 2nd (Fukumiyama-). - Kuroimori and Vikanohara battle each other through the next 8 brackets: correct on Shosei-, wrong on Kei+, correct on Takanoiwa+/Irie+/Sasanoyama+/Tamadaiki-, wrong on Wakamisho-, correct on Jokoryu+. Kakuryu- then decides it in Kuroimori's favour on the 11th slot. If Profomisakari had survived on Fukamiyama, he would have snatched the yusho on Kei two brackets later. Alas. And I would be remiss if I didn't congratulate Kameumi on his Kotooshu pick. Yes, the rest of his slate didn't quite work out ;-) but that was a really gutsy selection. All in all we managed to get 99 out of 176 predictions right this time, for a 56% accuracy rate. We did much better on the positive predictions (58 of 97 turned out correct) than the negative ones (only 38 of 79 were correct there). Pretty surprising that we still managed to overshoot the tie-breaker with our guesses, but that's probably to be laid at the feet of the backup squad - only one KK out of 9! Thank you to talented Masunosho for preventing the whitewash. In addition to the 12 holdovers and the one regular newcomer, we will have one additional entry: Veteran Kotoyutaka not only secured his juryo return after 3 years, he did so by establishing a 4-KK streak, sufficent for our recently introduced sekitori dispensation. Shotenro had a chance to join him on the ballot, but fell to 7-8 on senshuraku. Next basho's backup squad will be rather short at just 7 rikishi, incidentally. And here's the upcoming lineup:

Needless to say that's a well-deserved ozeki promotion even from the komusubi rank. Congrats! Asojima will be kadoban in Aki while Profomisakari will be on a tsunatori. This is actually only the second time in the 3-year history of the game that an ozeki was among the top scorers of a basho. Asojima's tsunatori opportunity in Hatsu 2011 ended in a 6-9, and demotion one basho later after another makekoshi. Hopefully our new candidate will fare better. :-) Edited July 22, 2012 by Asashosakari

Needless to say that I am humbled to be promoted to the prestigious rank of Ozeki in this game. A deep bow to the organizer and moderator of this game. (Bow...) I will do my best to continue with forward moving guessing at Aki basho in order to show honor to my new rank. See you all again in September!
