New kesho mawashi

Query: if a rikishi changes their shikona, do they still wear old kesho mawashi? Do they modify them with the new name?

The Mokkeikai kesho mawashi for Oyanagi is designed to switch the name easily to Yutakayama: "I'll do my best to produce results for which I get the OK to change shikona."  http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/sumo/20170107-OHT1T50050.html

I was waiting for a pic of this:

Ishiura got a new kesho-mawashi from McLaren Tokyo: "Ishiura and McLaren are very similar in being light and having speed and power."

Ishiura: "Really cool! Can't wait to put it on." About the 650S for 34.4 million yen as the design: "I thought it's small, but it's spacious. I got the urge to get in for a drive. To Enoshima, with a pretty woman on board." http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/sumo/20170107-OHT1T50090.html

while active he isn't allowed to drive though - but he could ask the pretty woman to drive

Do rikishi have any say in the design of their kesho mawashis, or could they get lumbered with wearing something they really hate?
In case they have more than one, are there specific rules when they wear which one (perhaps in relation to the support by the giver, or their presence on the day)?

Just wonderin'...:)

He wore it on day 1 and again day 4: only if he is in the first group and Hakuho's dohyo-iri is the last, to have enough time to change into the one from the yokozuna set.

Onions and peppers. Can't beat those. Anybody ever have fish on theirs? A big octopus would be cool.

Tatsutagawa-oyakata (Homasho) donated a kesho-mawashi to his hometown Shimonoseki, to be on display in the lobby of the city hall till the end of the month, later it will be in the Shimonseki Budokan.

No fish, but a whale for Toyonoshima: http://ameblo.jp/toyonoshima-daiki/entry-11639402065.html

Toyonoshima put the photo of a (not new, but …) keshō-mawashi on his blog, designed by Takashi Yanase the creator of Anpan-man, who died on the 13th at the age of 94. He like Toyonoshima was from Kochi pref.

There are more with fish, I think also with octopus, maybe I look for them tomorrow.

Does Kakuryu ever wear this one anymore? because frankly, it's a little weird.

A yokozuna never wears an old one from before promotion - only one of a yokozuna set.

A new kesho-mawashi set from the heya koenkai was presented to Kisenosato at the koenkai-party (a glimpse of the tachi is shown as well in the NHK news). Design with crane and Mt. Fuji = with the hope to have him become a yokozuna to rise above the highest mountain (in Japan)

better video, with rengo-geiko scenes at first:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-9N2XLDs5c&t=52s

The set gets explained in detail in the morning papers. It's from the Tagonoura-beya koenkai and has several heya connected points put into the design. The cranes (tsuru) come from the oyakata's shikona, Takanotsuru: he's from a city known for cranes who come flying in.

The kesho-mawashi on the right for the tsuyu-harai with a pair of cranes has them fly over a landscape part of Suruga-bay, famed for its beauty - with the proper name: Tagonoura. The one for the tachi-mochi shows 3 young cranes, the offspring of the pair. The main bird over the (early morning) red Mt. Fuji has already spread its wings - became independent and reached the top - thus the hope that Kise may become the one above all the others.

Asanoyama joins the fishy group: a jumping buri is the design for his new kesho mawashi from the local Kita-Nihon shimbun company, the paper which reports each of his moves. The presentation was at the heya's Osaka lodgings by the company president: "I want you to aim for ozeki and yokozuna." The oyakata: "I want him to reach makuuchi this year." Asanoyama: "I'm aiming for kachi-koshi at the Haru basho." - "I want to do a dohyo-iri with it quickly." - the plan is to use it on day 1.

I hope Jakusotsu's remark didn't put you off giving your usual explanation of the design...

I'd love to know what that white root-like thing is with the onions - and what it all means!

I strongly believe that's an accurate graphical rendition of onion fart....
