orandashoho 720 Posted January 7, 2017 Do rikishi have any say in the design of their kesho mawashis, or could they get lumbered with wearing something they really hate? In case they have more than one, are there specific rules when they wear which one (perhaps in relation to the support by the giver, or their presence on the day)? Just wonderin'...:)

Design with crane and Mt. Fuji = with the hope to have him become a yokozuna to rise above the highest mountain (in Japan) The set gets explained in detail in the morning papers. It's from the Tagonoura-beya koenkai and has several heya connected points put into the design. The cranes (tsuru) come from the oyakata's shikona, Takanotsuru: he's from a city known for cranes who come flying in. The kesho-mawashi on the right for the tsuyu-harai with a pair of cranes has them fly over a landscape part of Suruga-bay, famed for its beauty - with the proper name: Tagonoura. The one for the tachi-mochi shows 3 young cranes, the offspring of the pair. The main bird over the (early morning) red Mt. Fuji has already spread its wings - became independent and reached the top - thus the hope that Kise may become the one above all the others. o o o o o oo Edited March 3, 2017 by Akinomaki

Akinomaki 40,774 Posted March 8, 2017 (edited) Asanoyama joins the fishy group: a jumping buri is the design for his new kesho mawashi from the local Kita-Nihon shimbun company, the paper which reports each of his moves. The presentation was at the heya's Osaka lodgings by the company president: "I want you to aim for ozeki and yokozuna." The oyakata: "I want him to reach makuuchi this year." Asanoyama: "I'm aiming for kachi-koshi at the Haru basho." - "I want to do a dohyo-iri with it quickly." - the plan is to use it on day 1. o o o o $o Edited March 9, 2017 by Akinomaki
