Tomokaze on his twitter posted the pic of the new "kaze" 風 kesho mawashi from his Kawasaki koenkai

The kanji 風 is a calligraphy by autistic calligrapher Tatsuhiko Sezaki. http://www.kanaloco.jp/article/380028

Shohozan got a kesho mawashi from the local Kyushu based airline StarFlyer - one big kinboshi with the hope that he gets one (why not or more?) at the basho - he has 5 so far - and 14 plain white stars (for a total of 15-0) on the right of the plane tail with the company initials.

Very cool! But what are the seven stars on the left of the plane tail for? Is his choices only zensho of MK?

Yeah, I was looking for a hint in the articles - esp. the long one with more pics http://travel.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1164215.html

but they don't mention the reason for the design on the left.

So I checked the company page https://www.starflyer.jp/

the 7 stars correspond to the 7 airports the airline travels to - and the airline's  IATA code is 7G

The airline had placed kensho in the past on Shohozan and Kotoshogiku. The 10 wins he got last basho made them give him the kesho mawashi - because they are top for 10 years now in national flights - the head of the promotion department did like that connection.

The OBs of Mitakeumi's middle school sumo club want to give him a kesho mawashi and have called for contributions, 5000 yen per person, also from externals. Mitakeumi has 5 kesho mawashi so far - while from high school and university is quite common, one from middle school is not.

The design for the new kesho-mawashi for Mitakeumi: the school emblem and motto on the school color, with the present name:  木曽町中学校 Kiso town middle school - changed from Fukushima middle school. Costs of about 1.5 million yen, it is planned to be ready mid December. The call for donations is still end of the year. https://www.shimintimes.co.jp/news/2018/09/post-1942.php

The new kesho-mawashi for Mitakeumi from his middle school is on display in his hometown - it will be donated to him next month. The 5000 yen contributions were collected from about 330 individuals and corporations

Yago returned to his hometown of Memuro, Hokkaido the other day to report on his Makuuchi debut kachi-koshi performance, and was presented with a new kesho-mawashi by the koenkai. Against a backdrop of the Hidaka Mountains, it features the town bird, a cuckoo, and implements of a croquet-like sport called gateball, which was invented in the town shortly after WW2 as a way to keep children entertained.

The kesho-mawashi was originally to be presented to Yago in Tokyo ahead of the Hatsu basho, but he himself preferred to have the presentation at this party, in order to thank his hometown fans for their support.

The Taka-twins got kesho mawashi from Hagoromo foods - a big kensho sponsor, with the sea chicken kensho.

Takagenji with sea chicken, Mt. Fuji and a pine tree, Takanofuji no Fuji, instead some goddess of luck or the like, with Hagoromo 舞 mai (dance) - another product of mainly katsuobushi.

They have Seachicken Brothers with special songs in their CMs - these 2 maybe are their new Seachicken Brothers.

I had to laugh at this - Seachicken Brothers. (Thinkingindepth...)

Oh, as a birdwatcher I love this one! It's a great portrayal of a Japanese Pheasant. It will have to go on my list of top 10 kesho mawashis!

So this is painted and not embroidered... does the paintwork have a protective layer? Or is it first printed?
One thing I like about embroidery is the added dimensionality, which paintwork lacks -- a pity, because it is a striking image.

Likely only the original design is a painting - the details of how the kesho mawashi is made are not given.

Just found this thread for the first time and I am loving it!

Does anyone know what happens to previous kesho mawashi once a rikishi receives a new one? Do the rikishi or oyakata collect them, or do they return to the sponsors? Thanks

They are all just his posession, as long as he's active he will use favorite old ones as well, the new ones maybe only at the basho he got them for. After retirement, it's as Bumkin said - the thread for those it this:

Shimanoumi on the 7th got the standard kesho-mawashi from his (Kinki) university - now always Kindai. The 5th active rikishi to have one, following (Homarefuji), Takarafuji, Tokushoryu and Asanoyama - Tokushoryu  can be seen in one from time to time. http://www.daily.co.jp/general/2019/03/07/0012125010.shtml

Did the name of the university change under international pressure? "Kindai" is easier to promote abroad maybe.
