Apparently, after retirement Ishiura lost weight and gained height.

Wakamotoharu today appeared at the dohyo-iri with a new kesho mawashi from his local Fukushima koenkai, designed by his mother Fumiko, who according to his tsukebito and older brother Wakatakamoto graduated from a school for the fine arts and in the past had thought about working in the design business. It shows the prefecture and flowers of the local fruits, an image of spring=haru. Today Hoshoryu used the new kesho mawashi - it already is one from Takasu for reaching ozeki, presented early (looks like Takasu wants to save money and scrapped the extra kesho mawashi)

The wagyu cattle for Hoshoryu by Takasu should he make it to ozeki - no doubt that Takasu has no doubt that Hoshoryu will succeed

The new kesho mawashi for Tenshoho for juryo promotion from Tottori Johoku high - presented to the public by headmaster Ishiura o

The kirin-jishi mask standard design is by Tottori pref. decorated artist Hirotaro Nakao o from Tottori city: "The kirin-jishi is usually a sleeping lion with eyes closed, but I designed it with eyes open and about to jump up to aim for higher"

With the company logo, that contains I - ichiban - to indicate aiming for the top, and with

氣 wa - ki - design below - kanji characters the oyakata loves, Japanese heart and spirited - the old way to write it, 気 is OK, but the design for 和 is not straightforward and really old: it's the other way round and a bit extended, close to 訸

Do sumotori buy kesho mawashi for themselves? I always read donated by former school, donated by sponsor. But has there been the case of a sumotori designing something special and paying himself? I know some design their own yukatas. Because if i were a Yokozuna (i would be the most awesome ever), i definitely wanted japanized versions of Vader (yes, i know, his mask and helmet are based on japanese armor) for myself, a Scout Trooper for tsuyuharai and a Stormtrooper for tachimochi...

Or can they just tell their sponsor, what to do for the next kesho mawashi?

Never, it's always a present. But some are from the family, if they are rich enough.

Do they just not do it, or is it frowned upon in some way? Sumimasen in advance for digging deeper, i'm just into curious little details. Japan has some weird behavioural codes.

Maybe, because i want something, that's my own creation/style.  I promise, my yukatas would be THE shit. Think eye-watering neon yellow and neon pink zig-zag pinstripe. If you are tall and bulky, use the canvas!  Something a donor would never design. Maybe to show, like in my example, a connection to something. Maybe i wanted to honour someone or something, who isn't able to buy such expensive things. For example a mawashi with the crest of my small and/or poor home town.
