Kintamayama 45,132 Posted August 26, 2012 After complaining of fatigue and "feeling sluggish" rising star Chiyotairyuu was diagnosed with diabetes (probably type 1 but doesn't say), it was revealed at a promotion party in his honor attended by 450 people. "I have lost 20 kilos.. I can hardly do any butsugari.. I'd like to get a KK," he said. He is now working on new eating habits. "I'll just do keiko when I am able and hope for the best.." he said. Dr.Radical 16 Posted August 26, 2012 Very sad news... Although, wasn't there another rikishi with diabetes? I hope he can maintain weight and strength with his new eating habits.
Asojima 2,874 Posted August 26, 2012 Very sad news... Although, wasn't there another rikishi with diabetes? I hope he can maintain weight and strength with his new eating habits. Diabetes is a common ailment for the rikishi. They learn to deal with it. Expect an occasional "downer" basho.
Dr.Radical 16 Posted August 26, 2012 Well that's a bit of a relief. I assume it'll take him a bit to get back into the swing of things, though?
Flohru 176 Posted August 26, 2012 (edited) Very sad news... Although, wasn't there another rikishi with diabetes? I hope he can maintain weight and strength with his new eating habits. Diabetes is a common ailment for the rikishi. They learn to deal with it. Expect an occasional "downer" basho. Well, that's a bit too generalizing. Of course there are different types of Diabetes and not all rikishi are able to cope with it similarly. There are those who manage to go on with Diabetes for rather a long time without being affected too much by it, while others need some years to find back to their level and some promising careers are actually destroyed by it. Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted August 27, 2012 Tragic news...he has talent, this lad. I'm wondering if Tochinowaka is suffering similar woes.
Igordemorais 75 Posted August 27, 2012 It's a lifestyle disease. And to be expected.
botev1921 33 Posted August 27, 2012 To be honest, I would expect at least half the rikishi to have diabetes. After all it is often associated with weight and that would be type 2. It is something common nowadays!
