Kintamayama 45,530 Posted October 1, 2012 (edited) New Yokozuna Harumafuji won the All Japan rikishi knock-out tournament today at the KKan. It was the fourth time he won it after a three year hiatus. The only other rikishi to ever win this tournament 4 times were Futabayama and Akebono. Prize money- 500,000 yen. He beat Kisenosato in the final by shitatehineri. "I'm really happy. This was my first tournament as a new Yokozuna so i planned on doing sumo that would make the fans happy," he said. With the yusho armband (???): The Juryo championship was won by Hakuhou's protegee Daikihou, who took home 200,000 yen. He beat Nionoumi by okuridashi in the finals. "The minute I did the okuridashi it dawned on me that I had won the yusho. It was great to be able to go up against various opponents," he said. He beat Nichidai classmate Joukouryuu in the first round, and Takamisakari in the semis."It will soon be gone.. It won't last a day.." he said of the prize money. Pippooshu 1 Posted October 2, 2012 Just a stupid question, I'm sorry: wht's the specific name of this tournament?
Akinomaki 40,799 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) On the 1st Harumafuji did a at first a dohyo-iri at the Meiji shrine and then at the 71st All Japan Rikishi Championship (written differently, with 士 shi like in rikishi, instead of 手 shu like in athlete, but sounds about alike) Tournament, Hakuho likewise. Harumafuji: "I realized the meaning of one time being said to exhaust like 2, 3 bouts. I usually don't sweat much, but the dohyo-iri makes me sweat." Hakuho is sorry that he can't contribute to the event celebrating 40 years of normalization of Japan-China relations (which are at a low now), thinking that sports can help interaction. Meiji shrine Hakuho with Kaisei as tachi-mochi in the kokugikan indeed said to be the yusho band Edited October 2, 2012 by Akinomaki

Raishu 208 Posted October 2, 2012 I'm digging Hakuho's yellow mawashi. I hope it's a permanent change! Well, he only wears the golden one on special occasions. I'm pretty sure we'll see the good old brown mawashi next basho.

Yes, didn't he wear it when he equalled Wajima's number of yusho, as a nod to the former yokozuna? Yes, but only the first three days of the basho or so. Too bad he didn't stick to the golden one permanently.
