Akinomaki 40,766 Posted October 20, 2012 At the Kumamoto jungyo, also a team contest of amateurs and low rank professionals should take place. Mainly amateurs from sumo club members of high schools in Kumamoto prefecture and the other side mainly sandanme and below. In jungyo in former times this was practised, lately it's nearly never done there. It happens during training camps of single heya or the otoi oozumo in Seiyo, Ehime. krindel 675 Posted October 21, 2012 Takanohana took part and put out his chest for the students to train. While I don't doubt he has loads to teach technique wise, I kind of wonder if he still has any power left... He looks so skinny nowadays!

alaninjapan 18 Posted October 22, 2012 my first thought after seeing Takanohana here was of the guardians of Todaiji.....maybe its just me
krindel 675 Posted October 22, 2012 Is it the first time such a "tournament" was held? I don't think I've heard of one before... I do have to say that if that was an original idea by Takanohana, it is really commendable of him. He seems to be making a huge effort to modernize some things at least... He already has the makushita 15 tsukedashi qualification from winning the All Japan Corporate championships in September. 194 cm, 170 kg. About entering Ozumo: “I haven't thought about anything yet.” 3 high schools with makushita and below from 5 heya: keiko and a tournament. Taka wants to make it a tournament to give high school students the chance of getting a makushita tsukedashi qualification. Saitama Sakae coach Yamada: “Good idea. Sandanme would be enough.” This year individual matches were added. Tottori-Johoku won the team event this year (they say again, but our thread and last years article http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2012/10/21/kiji/K20121021004377290.html say it was Saitama Sakae). Team member like last year, but now coach Ichinnorov (19 or 20?, on the left) also won the individual. Next year Taka (again) wants to have 10 heya and 10 schools. http://www.nishinippon.co.jp/nnp/miyazaki/article/47236 http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2013/10/20/kiji/K20131020006843970.html http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2013/10/20/kiji/K20131020006843980.html
