Mukonoso 273 Posted October 21, 2012 Since I will likely be going to the Osaka basho when I visit the family in Japan next March I'd like to know about how much money to put aside. I've already got the ticket price down but have some other questions. Mostly about tegata. On average how much does a tegata cost? Does it depend on the rank of the rikishi? Do they come autographed already or do you have to get that later if you are lucky enough to spot the rikishi? How much does food cost? Anything else of interest in the souvenir stand? Costs? Thanks in advance.
Kuroyama 715 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) All the tegata I have I bought secondhand from Nishinoshima, so I can't speak to cost, but yes, they come with the signature. I'm not clear how you're supposed to tell one handprint apart from another without it, without fingerprint analysis or something. Mukonoso 273 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) They're only replicas? That's a little disappointing. Where do the stacks of tegata that we see the rikishi making in documentaries go to? I was hoping for an original Kotooshu to hang in my den. (Eh?) Do you think Takanoyama is popular enough to have tegata replica on sale? What else is for sale? Do they have blank autograph boards in case I see a rikishi I like walking up to the building? Edited October 21, 2012 by Mukonoso

alaninjapan 18 Posted October 22, 2012 There are other things at the stands in Osaka including, cookies, towels, handkerchiefs, phone-straps, door curtains etc.
Mukonoso 273 Posted October 22, 2012 Guess I'll probably pick up manju for the in-laws. I don't think I've ever been anyplace in Japan that didn't sell manju (except maybe a video game arcade). Are the ongoing basho's banzuke sold at the stand?
