I think "against Miyogiryu etc." should be read something like "Miyogiryu and the rest of the sekitori at the stable". After all, Sakaigawa-beya has no shortage of those...

It still is an impressive result for Goiedo, I hope he does well in the coming basho. His instability has been disappointing over the years, but he's still young enough to maintain hopes of higher things to come. :-)

"Unfortunately" Goeido always wins nearly every bout in training against all Sakaigawa sekitori, but when it counts in the basho he often disappoints again. Still hope that he can make it to ozeki but I have my doubts.

I go with "the likes of.."

That is definetely better to convey the meaning, since "ra" implies similarities, like someone of the same group. I stick to my version because I like the similarities in form.

Shohozan, likely new sanyaku next basho, has ozeki as the aim for next year.
Since the 8th he goes for degeiko to Oguruma-beya, on the 12th he was 3-8 against Takekaze and Yoshikaze.
"In the Hatsu basho the objective is not the number of wins, main thing are the contents. I want to go through the basho by returning to the origins of my sumo."

Takamisakari with Azumazeki-oyakata. Takamisakari (36) plans to search for a marriage partner. So far he said "While active that's not the time for it", but being back in his dusty Tokyo apartment after 2 month he confessed "I have the thought that any time now I want to start the search."

Bulgarian Aoiyama plans to enter Hatsu. He sprained his left knee joint on day 8 of the last basho and withdrew from the tournament after winning 6. He was considering undergoing surgery but decided against it in the end. "If I go under the knife I'll be out for at least six months till I can fully recover.." he explained.

Takamisakari added bicycle training to his adjustments for the basho. Between his apartment and the heya and sometimes to Ueno in the heaviest gear of 3. "Less strain on the knees than walking, good training for around the thigh. The tachi-ai power increases."

Myogiryu (26) got the 49th Chunichi Shimbun Ozumo makuuchi best newcomer of the year award. The ceremony will be on shonichi, January the 13th on the dohyo in the kokugikan, before makuuchi starts.
His goal for next year: "I'm not young, so it's no use to just say return to sanyaku. I have to win double digits as sekiwake. The goal is 'ozeki'"

Komusubi Tochiozan did keiko on the 26th in Kasugano-beya against Tochinowaka and others, 28 bouts moushi-ai. "Next year I don't want to just say it, I'm going to think in earnest about rising to ozeki." His same class rival sekiwake Goeido coming closer to ozeki seems to stimulate the usually moderate rikishi.
