Sumo trivia - Oguruma oyakata recovered from neck injury

Recommended Posts

Oguruma oyakata (former Ozeki Kotokaze) looked pretty good as he appeared as a commentator on NHK broadcast. He fell and strained his neck during Jungyo and paralyzed last April. (I didn't know!)

The doctor said his recovery speed has been almost a miracle.

Oyakata said he just wanted to go back to his Heya to teach his rikishi as soon as possible. Amazing spirit! :-)

Reminiscent of his recovery from his first knee injury prior to him becoming ozeki.

NHK programme from Sat 5 Oct about Oguruma-oyakata is here:

42 minutes long - if you stop it and try to reload you may be expected to sign up to the website ("free limit exceeded" message). However, single first-time viewing was possible on next day.

If this should be in the "TV programme" thread rather than here, maybe somebody who knows how to do it can create a link.

Just a quote should be sufficient

The rikishi of Oguruma-beya and the family did a surprise dance for the oyakata, who is still in rehabilitation after his grave accident last year. With pics:

Right! and it was on regular Japanese TV today (or was it yesterday?). A very moving program, at all levels. The love and support were very much in evidence.
