Because the oyakata didn't expect the promotion, they didn't have a new shikona for Endo ready on such short notice. Endo: In a way, it's the feeling that at last I will stand on the dohyo. Now that I'm doing it, I want to go up to the top.

Taiho, on whose birthday the juryo promotion of Oosunaarashi was announced, had told him to do 500 shiko stampings (he only manages to do 300 so far) and 1000 times teppou thrusting and also suri-ashi. He pledges to do severe keiko, to rise to yokozuna (he won't be able to become one anyway, as his faith should forbid him to do the shinto rituals connected with the rank, dohyo-iri at shrines and the shrine visits with praying on that and other occasions).

unfortunate for guys like Seiro to get promoted this basho after toiling aways for years in Sandanme and makushita, only to have their moment in the sun massively overshadowed by a Saharan sand storm. Novelty factor will win out every time and the novelty factor is in overdrive here.

Great portrait of Taiho in the background.

Nice Tospo pic with Taiho (portrait) in the middle.

Toiling away for years being the operative phrase. Sumo isn't the heart-warming story of the dedicated journey-man plugging away for years and finally getting his big shot thanks to his diligent efforts every day; if it were, the kyokai would have celebrated Kyokutenho's win with a massive ad campaign instead of issuing an apology for the tournament. No, it's all about the fast-rising stars that shoot up the ranks and the excitement of seeing how quick and how high they can climb before they burn out.

After what i said earlier in this thread, it made me smile today when Seiro gave a Osunaarashi a schooling.
