Sokokurai started keiko on the 3rd in Arashio-beya with the basics.

His weight is unchanged since his reinstatement was announced: 135/137 kg, but he always did the basics when away from the dohyo and forged his lower body: "My body has become different. Muscle-mass has increased. Getting excited. When I'm in the basho I want do get kachi-koshi." During the Natsu-basho he mainly trained at a gym.
He will meet many rikishi for the first time and has studied them on video: "This rikishi is strong with that kind of sumo. I have repeatedly watched them, till my head ached."
On day one about 150-160 supporters and natives of Inner Mongolia will be there. He gets 2 new kesho-mawashi, one with "tiger, Mt. Fuji, willow" design. A blue mawashi for the basho was also made for him with money collected from supporters.
He plans for degeiko at Tokitsukaze-beya (same ichimon).

Sokokurai planning to enter Nagoya on the 20th.
About his video studies, from makushita to makuuchi: "Opponents I'll meet for the first time may be surprisingly few. In the arm movements immediately after impact, finding that man's habits was informative."
About plans this week for degeiko and meeting sekitori there: "The feeling of wanting to stand on the dohyo once again has become stronger. I'm going to solidly do keiko."

Sokokurai won't be returning to Inner Mongolia this year and concentrate on sumo.

Hakuho (back on the 8th), Azumaryu and Takanoiwa etc. left for Mongolia today, after their planned flight yesterday was canceled due to bad weather.

Baruto is planning on entering Nagoya, his shisho said today. No surgery, just a "healing process". The swelling has not gone down yet. "He plans on entering Nagoya. He will probably start training when we get to Nagoya," said Onoe Oyakata, parking his car in the usual spot this time.

Yes, swelling that is still there after a month is a sure sign of a knee in good shape :(

Sounds like the same old "just-gambarize-more" medicine.

Sokokurai: in bad shape and was absent from keiko on the 5th, degeiko is cancelled: high blood pressure, he went to a hospital. If recovered, he planned to continue training in the 6th.

Maybe they expect he can win easily at his new, lower rank and slow his banzuke decent as he heals. It sounds like a very risky strategy as he could aggravate his injury even against easy opponents.

I would be very interested to know what is in his glass.

This focus on him being primarily a muslim rather than his progress as a rikishi is getting a bit silly now.

If someone posts a picture of him eating, will someone be very interested to know if the meat is halal?

Good luck to the lad, and I hope his DVT has fully healed for the sake of his future health.

Sokokurai on the 7th being to 5 heya to do degeiko: no chance. At Kise-beya no keiko because the sekitori are injured, other heya had no keiko as well. 5th at Tokitsukaze-beya he did some basics, shiko etc - that's it.
About his resting on the 5th: "At present I'm in good form."

Wakanosato: "The knee that was operated on is recovering well with the warm temperatures. After going to Nagoya, I'll also do moushi-ai keiko"

Wakanosato: "The knee after the operation is recovering well with the warm temperatures. After going to Nagoya, I'll also do moushi-ai keiko"

He had another operation? He was operated just before the Haru Basho!

That same operation. I should better translate it: the knee that was operated on.

Ok, I understand now. But bascially, Wakanosato isn't doing much keiko in the Dohyo anymore for some time, avoiding any injury.

The party celebrating Daikiho's makuuchi promotion was on the 9th (always odd when they do that with demotion being sure - but before the basho there is not much time to organize it) , about 250 guests. Daikiho:

"I had aimed for a sansho, but finished with really 3 wins (sansho). By all means I will do my best to become stronger and be able to fight with a yokozuna."

Miyagino-oyakata: "I'll have him keep at it to be sanyaku after one year."

Hakuho: "That embarrassing result is also my fault. I'm sorry." Daikiho will be for the first time tsuyuharai at Hakuho's dohyo-iri in Tokushima on the 15th.

Okinoumi training a new special move, in 20 bouts with makushita rikishi at Hakkaku-beya. "Please look forward to the new Okinoumi. Only relying on the uwate is no good. Among the top rikishi there is none who does. With a left ottsuke I'll bring them down."
With Tanigawa-oyakata (Hokutoriki) and others showing their muscles.

At the sumo training institute on the 14th there was a lesson about the elimination of antisocial powers (Yakuza). The fresh rikishi were told about organization, names and structures of the groups in the vicinity of Ryogoku and in their home towns.
Ishiura: "We are by our outfit and appearance at once recognizable as sumo people. As we thus stand out, we have to be self-aware."

Aoiyama's strategy to return to sanyaku: reducing weight with more vegetables and less white rice. His weight had increased to 192kg, 15 more than in his sanyaku debut basho, last Aki: "My body felt heavy. It exhausts me. Stress has piled up too much."
Now he has 190 and wants to reach 182-4. Also to reduce the burden for his old injury at his left knee and for his lower back.
On the 18th keiko at Kasugano beya with Tochinoshin and Tochinowaka in 21 bouts moushi-ai. "For me that's the only way.", thoroughly brushing up his thrusts and pushes.
In his time as a wrestling athlete he once reduced his weight from 140 to 120 for a contest, so this should be not so high a hurdle.
