Oosunarashi still has a lot to learn, Takanoyama is such an unusual rikishi to face. I wonder how many lose forst time against the Czech?

Here is a list of Takanoyama's first bouts (hatsu kao) as a sekitori. His record for first bouts is 15-14, much better than his overall record as a sekitori.

Oh, and welcome to the Forum! :-)

Not significantly so, I'd say.

Makuuchi: 26-49 overall, 3-6 hatsu kao

Juryo: 59-57 overall, 12-8 hatsu kao

Edit: At the end of Haru basho, the juryo numbers were 49-41 (.544) and 8-7 (.533). His numbers look to have improved of late because now he's the veteran and the other guy is the newcomer in most hatsu kao matchups. (And because his overall WL% has been tanked by the current basho.) His first-time meetings with established rikishi didn't go any better than later matches.

including makushita division (i find the inclusion of it rather interesting as you find there rikishi worthy to mention) the results are 82 wins and 70 losses in 152 first time meeting.

After mulling it over all day, I realized I'm more upset at Harumafuji ruining the yuusho race with his quasi-henka on Kotooshu than I am upset about HF's lackluster performance. It'd be one thing if he'd beat Big K head on. Or hell, had even actually fought Kotooshu. But this...this was just disappointing. Kotooshu was having a great tournament and deserved better.

If I were you I'd be more upset with myself for thinking Kotooshu was actually in the yusho race.

Cannot a person dream?

For the love of Christ!

Endo has been quite impressive this basho, even accounting for the fact that he started his matches in the low reaches of Juryo.

Is there a chance he'll be given a Makuuchi visit? Should be interesting to see :-)

Tokitenku is showing impressive composure in bouncing somewhat back from the traditional nightmare week of over-ranked Komusubi...

As for Daido, if he is not injured, his loss streak is just stunning...

Sort of. :-P

Two more wins would be slightly better.

Both Kakuryu and Kotoshogiku had better win their bouts tomorrow, otherwise a MK is not beyond imagination...

Day 11: 5200 spectators.

Hakuho today hurt his right side, twisted while doing the uwatenage to throw down Kotoshogiku.

Kakuryu gets another maegashira on Day 14.

Now even a 12-3 yusho for Kisenosato is possible again, Hakuho not fit may lose all 3 remaining bouts. Next basho another yokozuna run ?

Hakuho hasn't looked completely fit all basho, and he's still 12-0. In any case, I think any 12-3 will carry over now, given that he'd need to beat both yokozuna for it (and avoid losing to Giku on Day 15 yet again).

I think Aoiyama has more chances for the yusho than Kise, schedule-wise.

but i also think that Hakuho can beat both Oshu and Kise even with an injured right side. He just has to stop compensating for his "lack" of training with uwate or shitate throws..

I'm pretty sure schedule wise Aoiyama will be thrown to the dogs on the last two days. Takayasu tomorrow. In his case, the dogs really don't have to have extra-sharp teeth..

I know, but I would assume it would be either the always dangerous Aminishiki, or a highly motivated Aoiyama... Not that he can't beat both of them, but it would be cutting it pretty close...

Scenario 1: Hakuho wins his one tomorrow, Aoyama falls to Takayasu and Hakuho goes kyujo with yusho in his pocket (has this ever happened?)

Scenario 2: Hakuho goes kyujo tommorow, Aoiyama loses to Takayasu and some top guy next day, all of Kotooshu/Kisenosato/Kaisei go 2-1 or worse in remaining days, Hakuho yusho.
Scenario 3: Hakuho goes kuyjo tommorow, Kettei-sen with anywhere between 2-5 rikishi (incl.Hakuho), Hakuho comes back to win the kettei-sen! (is this possible rules-wise?)
Scenario 4 and what will probably happen. 15-0 Hakuho.

Wajima definitely did it once. I don't know if it has been done again :-).
