Mukonoso 273 Posted July 20, 2013 My wife watches Tetsuko no Heya and alerted me to it. She said at one part Hakuho admitted that before he came to Japan he was still sleeping with his parents?
ALAKTORN 346 Posted July 20, 2013 Yeah, he did. He said he was 15 yo at that time (I think).
Mukonoso 273 Posted July 20, 2013 Would that be a cultural thing or were they that poor? I thought his dad was an Olympian and his mother a doctor.
Orion 431 Posted July 21, 2013 Would that be a cultural thing or were they that poor? I thought his dad was an Olympian and his mother a doctor. Cultural thing, most likely. Most urban Mongolians are only three generations out of a ger, where privacy is virtually impossible. In my three summer visits with Habitat for Humanity (2003,4 & 5) the people so eagerly building their own houses were almost all professionals living in cramped conditions in substandard apartments dating from the time when the Russians were in charge (though not officially so). Mukonoso 273 Posted July 21, 2013 Thanks for the clarification. (but what does "three generations out of a ger " mean?

Orion 431 Posted July 22, 2013 its another name for "yurt" the traditional houses the mongolian nomads use. "Yurt" is the Russian name for an almost identical padded tent, and Mongolians don't like it being used for their own variety. By "three generations out of a ger" I meant that the grandparents or parents of most of the Mongolians now living in cities originally lived the nomadic life. In fact a lot of the poorer people living in Ulaan Baatar (preferred spelling) live out on the hills in ger encampments. Orion
aderechelsea 124 Posted July 22, 2013 thank for the clarification .... i always though "Yurt" was the name of the Mongolian tents. (maybe my educational sources on the matter were russian or just plain semi-educated western documentaries about mongolia.)
