Another big hope for future yokozuna

Recommended Posts

First year Urasoe middle school Tsuguto Touma (13), 181 cm, 150 kg, from Okinawa, Naha team, aiming to win in the middle school tournament in the kokugikan in August.
8-0 in the preliminaries in Okinawa against older years – as a first year just having made it to the national event is rare.
3 yusho in a row both in 2 national events on primary school level, which can be entered from 4th grade on. Oyakata watching him then: “Unbelievable !”
Of course he wants to become a yokozuna in ozumo, eager to enter quickly, becoming one and staying yokozuna for a long time: “I'm also confident regarding my speed.”
Oshi-zumo is his basis, but with his 65kg hand grip power he also has a strong left uwatenage.
His ideal for a rikishi is Asashoryu.

In comparison with a big kid from the same year.

already too big

Agree, with such a weight in such a young age, he will be never "full healthy" when he become 20...25. What is, in my opinion, the most important part to become a yokozuna (despite the mandatory fact of being more then talented).

No wonder he's winning against the tiny Kids of his age. Someone should take care of him, and he will only get to Baruto height and weight. Still, I recall a picture in this forum where Baruto was shown very slim, roughly the same age.

In fact, I'm afraid he will rather go to Orora dimensions.

Almost all seem to agree about his weight. I am sorry but this kids needs medical attention not sumo training. I can't help but think about the food he will be eating in sumo beya very soon. 13 year olds need parental supervision on food related matters.

Whilst he does actually look older than 13, someone somewhere is offering him poor advice, methinks.

Way too much focus on the short term, and none on the long term. And I think we all agree. Wishing him all the best though!

"Too heavy" can also be said about the other kid in the picture, even more so.

Btw. for the adult height prediction list I'm using, the 1.81m at 13 1/2 can be projected to 2.01m.

Btw. 13 is the age where a not so small number of boys appear to be (slightly) fat who are then at 15,16 slim again. It's a pre-puberty hormonal issue. Might or might not be relevant to Tsuguto.

He’s not Japanese, is he?

Unless stated otherwise, any rikishi, wanpaku included, is presumed to be Japanese. His origin is from Naha (or nearby like Urasoe), Okinawa, so it's explicit that he's Japanese, as is his name 當真嗣斗 with the reading Touma, Tsuguto.
