Only Naruto's official comment of course: Torakio couldn't win (anymore) against his (new) stablemates, saw not enough progress and gave up on an ozumo career - he returned to Bulgaria.

Today Chiko-chan as usual scolded the people on the panel who didn't know enough - today also about sumo. After sumo maybe the best program on NHK, and now both together: the focus is on the time schedule of the basho day - how to have it end at 18h - actually the aimed for scheduled end is 17:55h. An expert from the sumo museum explains details and history of the schedule, and Shibatayama the techniques to control the schedule bout per bout.

Last night, NHK had a 2019 sumo year in review panel discussion.  Panelists were Kitanofuji, Mainoumi, Takakeisho, and Enho.

Highlights  (paraphrased from memory):

-Takakeisho on what he gained from his tumultuous year:

"I'm grateful for the knee injury. I had been trying to expand my repertoire to include Yotsu, but the injury was a sign from above to not veer from what got me here. I'm going to stick with Oshi-zumo and prove that a strictly Oshi wrestler can become a Yokozuna."

-Takakeisho on how he'll approach his upcoming first meeting with Enho:

"I won't say."

Enho, when asked the same:

"So far, when visualizing wrestling Takekeisho, I've yet to see myself beating him."

-Kitanofuji and Mainoumi on who they see as the next Ozeki:

Asanoyama. Both believe he has the size, strength, and stability to reach the highest rank.

-Asanoyama, when asked about how he sees the next year unfolding:

"I want to take the next step and prove that Yotsu-zumo is the strongest sumo.

Takakeisho, upon hearing that:

"I wasn't really thinking about Asanoyama, but now that he said that, I'm going to have to show him that my Oshi is stronger than his Yotsu!"

-Enho, after finishing 7-8 makekoshi in his first basho at Makuuchi:

"Hakuho took me under his wing and put me through the grinder in training. Then he told me: 'If you don't kachikoshi, I'm going to retire.'" (Mission accomplished.)

-Hakuho, on Enho's future prospects:

"It all comes down to keiko. If he trains diligently and thinks about sumo 24/7 365, a yusho won't be far away."

Enho, responding to that prediction:

"One day I'd like to yusho, but right now I can't even imagine doing so."

Another highlight (again paraphrased):

They showed a clip of a very  young (elementary school aged) Enho wrestling and losing to an opponent about twice his size, and then slamming his fist down in the dirt in frustration and disgust. Asked about, it he said:

"I just hated to lose."

When asked if he was aware that his opponents were so much bigger than him he said:

"I didn't care. I just wanted to crush them all."

Yesterday Hayashiya Kikuo paid a visit to his (rating) enemy sumo - Shoten's TV ratings drop on Sundays during the basho (they are on the last 30 minutes of makuuchi). He was at Takadagawa-beya,  watched keiko of Ryuden and Kagayaki, and competed against 4 rikishi in an ogiri (the shoten main rakugo part), for which Shodai and Shohozan joined. MioMio is gone, apparently for good. The search database still works, but the videos that you find are no longer there. All video links here to the site are obsolete now. From now on it's basically only Bilibili or YT.

vast.miomio.tv is an old mirror site, no videos accessible.

SportsWatcher was one of those for which I depended on MioMio - fortunately the new year special starting with 4min. from Naruto-beya appeared on YT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9MGdxsypQM&t=90s

Interesting tidbit from Ishiura on Sanma's New Year Special:

-Prior to entering sumo he spent two years as an exchange student in Australia, where he pursued mixed martial arts. 

-Days before leaving, he had an opportunity to meet and drink with Hakuho, who was recruiting his friend, during which Hakuho casually invited him to also join.

-While in Australia, he auditioned and was cast for a role in the X-Men film series. 

-However, he recalled Hakuho's words and decided instead to return to Japan and give sumo a go.

-Upon his return, he asked Hakuho if he remembered him. Hakuho said he did not. Nonetheless, he was able to enter Miyagino-beya as Hakuho's disciple, and the rest is history.
