Watch the sumo stream easily on your Android/apple ios device now

Recommended Posts

Got you attention? great, thought a separate thread would be good catch those who had long given up the dream of watching sumo on their phone and don't bother to look at the usual basho stream thread on this forum.

So, this basho the sumo video stream has changed and is on Ustream - a very popular and well known live streaming service that most importantly has apps for android and iphone/ipad that make viewing the sumo stream a breeze now.

In the past it was virtually impossible to watch the stream on mobile. I tried dozens of media players and none of them worked, the old sumo stream was not at all user friendly.

Anyway, with your android phone, android tablet, iphone, ipad you can now enjoy sumo.

I did use "one-seg" to watch broadcast TV occasionally on an old cellphone in the past, but one-seg sucks, it very low res and always cuts out. This is much better.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.ustream.ustream&hl=en Google play

https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/ustream/id301520250?mt=8 itunes

install an search for "sumo", its the first one in the results. "September Grand Sumo tournament by Nippon Sumo Kyokai"

It had 1163 viewers this afternoon.

Yippee kye ay.

I tried vplayer several times on two devices and it never worked. On android 2.2, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2. I tried "dice" my default player on my 4.2 device and mx player (default) on my rooted 2.2 tablet.

I tried vlc, mobo, mvideoplayer (great player, formerly my default on the 2.2 device) iMplayer and more. None worked.

In the list view of the channels, each channel has the "3 dots" setting mark on the right hand side, click on that and click "follow". after that it's on your main menu page*

It will have "your username", "go live" then "following"- the channel will be there.

If you have Android 4.0 plus then swipe right to make the menu appear or tap the U icon at the top left of the screen.

perhaps Docomo tweaks phones in japan so you can't stream video over media players? (and suck up their bandwith). They do a good job at disabling wi-fi hotspots, so that it is extremely hard to circumvent.

It is Odd, as ustream app works fine! I don't know, maybe it was a samsung thing as my phone is a Galaxy nexus and tablet a Galaxy tab?

Anyway, the ipod via a wifi hotspot was great way to spend my train journey this afternoon :-D
