Would take a stab in the dark that the NS writer is an older guy on the sumo beat, not one who knows Harajuku etc.

Mark.Buckton 68 Posted October 21, 2013 Who cares? lol - in Japan - MANY people. Best - IMHO - are the men who line up to ride train type rides, get out hats and white gloves. Strange potatoes!

Not in costumes (boxers on visit don't come in gloves either), they are called the "Foreigners Cos-play Beauties" (actual group name? Apparently semi-professionals). Many Asian among them, but highly uncertain if Japanese are in a "foreigner" group. Edited October 21, 2013 by Akinomaki

Manekineko 200 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) Daikamikaze with the weight ball, working on his lower body and upper-arm strength. Anyone know what the balls are made of? Looks like stone at the first glance, and a quick calculation puts weight of stone ball with 30 cm diameter (guesswork from the photo) at decent 35 kilos. (For the curious: I used 2,5 g/cm3 as density guesstimate.) Edited October 22, 2013 by Manekineko
Akinomaki 40,053 Posted October 23, 2013 Minezaki-beya created a board-game type pamphlet about the way to yokozuna for a shin-deshi. On the back more info about the salary and social welfare (all insurance paid by the NSK) at different stages and provisions by the heya etc. after intai. They want to distribute 1000 of it at middle and high schools events to lure interested youngsters to the heya, after scouting at baseball last year.http://www.nikkansports.com/sports/sumo/news/p-sp-tp3-20131023-1207942.htmlhttp://datazoo.jp/tv/Nスタ/677053

Naganoyama 5,881 Posted October 24, 2013 It would be even more useful coming from a heya which had actually raised a Yokozuna. Mind you, Dewanoumi Beya has raised nine in the past but now does not even have one sekitori.

Akinomaki 40,053 Posted October 25, 2013 Aminishiki (35) became father on the 23rd, a daughter. His recuperation after his left inner meniscus injury was said to take one month, but after re-examination the anterior cruciate ligament was shown damaged as well, 3 months needed. Presently he goes to a gym each day and does rehabilitation: he can now do light shiko stamping. Not fully recovered for Kyushu but he won't be kyujo. He wants to enter the basho trying how he can do sumo being only 60% fit. http://www.nikkansports.com/sports/sumo/news/p-sp-tp3-20131025-1208808.html
