Ōsunaarashi restarted keiko today, checking the condition of his injured ankle and thus only doing the basics.

Goeido as well had his first asa-geiko in Kyushu. He also injured his foot during the jungyo (around the right big toe) and thus only did light exercise: “The injury is no big thing, till day 1 I can properly coordinate it.”

And no surprise, the same with Endo: only the basics, because the full recovery of his sprained left ankle is delayed. “I want to start as early as possible. I don't have the time to say 'from next week on'.”

I hope Endo will take time to properly recover and not aggravate his injury even more. I was a bit worried seeing him participate in all the jungyos and I hope that's not the reason for his delayed healing process. He should take Baruto as a huge warning sign of what can happen if you don't heal your injuries properly.

Chiyotairyu had developed a retinal detachment and had a laser treatment. Glaucoma in both eyes was discovered as well, he needs to use eye drops for it every day.

He was at the jungyo till the 14th, was treated after returning to Tokyo and skipped the rest of the jungyo. He can't yet do keiko on the dohyo and wants to intensify the basics. He may just be able to enter the basho, but kyujo is possible. Oyakata: “The doctor has to decide.”

In addition to diabetes, which may be a cause, he had so far 3 times a detachment at the left and once at the right eye, it tends to happen again and may lead to loss of eyesight. Daikiho had it at his left eye recently, retired Tsurugidake had it and continued.

Endo is in danger of having to enter the basho without proper preparation.
The jungyo was a valuable experience for him, but he admits he partly overdid it. “If I hadn't gone to the jungyo I might have recovered fully, but I don't regret having gone there.”

Wakanosato while training was being attacked by a giant hornet, but was unharmed – Takanoyama saved him, beating it at his foot (luckily on a taped part) with a towel and then caught it.
Last time in juryo in Nagoya 2009 he took the yusho 14-1 and was back in one basho.
15 bouts with young ones today and bee-win (hachi is a bee type insect and also 8), a good omen.

A video of that would be golden.

It's funny how big guys are more scared of flying, stinging insects than little dudes are.

But that was no ordinary hornet. It was a GIANT hornet. That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered hornet you ever set eyes on. It's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer! He's got huge, sharp-- eh-- he can leap about-- look at the bones!

Goeido started proper keiko on the 31st. Against Myogiryu and Fujiazuma on degeiko etc. 24-1, then he was stopped by Sakaigawa-oyakata. Hakuho and other top rikishi want to come for degeiko with him – he is pleased to be able to train with those he will meet at the basho.

Endo gave keiko lessons to 1st year middle school students. Oitekaze-oyakta, who in the past gave training to primary school Endo: “Endo's uchi-deshi, maybe.” Endo: “I don't even have a top-knot. Fastest in getting an uchi-deshi as well?”

On the 3rd he still only did the basics and pushing keiko, though the foot is getting better slowly.
The oyakata confirmed that Endo not only had a sprained ankle but also an avulsion or sprain fracture. He was doing keiko with a massive bandage, but that is no hindrance for entering the basho. He apparently won't be able to do any sumo bouts till day one, but he thinks that like this he may do the better sumo then.

Ōsunaarashi (189cm, 146kg now) seems to like this type of training. Again the hammer keiko a la heavy weight champion George Foreman, for getting more tachi-ai power. The hammer this time is said to be 4~5kg, 20 times beating the tire. And the tube suri-ashi.

Kumamoto mascot Kumamon may not as planned be on the dohyo with local Tenkaiho at the Kumamoto jungyo on Dec. 5th. He was even presented to the Imperial couple last month, so there should be no problem in respect of being inappropriate for the sacred dohyo. Final decision pending.

Houmashou trained at home , entertaining special guest Yokozuna Hakuhou who came to visit. He had 15 bouts altogether. "I got to train with the Yokozuna with all my might and the shoulder is OK. It gave me a lot of confidence.." he said somewhat later. He was injured last year and underwent surgery on his left shoulder last December, missing two straight bashos and dropping to Juryo as a result. He has won 9, 9, and 10 these last three bashos and is at M4. "There were times of impatience and of heartbreak.. It was a good experience. I managed to get back to where I once belonged, and I will give it my all!!" he said.

Chiyotairyu had on both eyes an operation for retinal detachment. He planned to start keiko bouts today with jonokuchi/jonidan opponents. “I have been told by the doctor not to do anything unreasonable, but I have to be in the basho. I haven't been able to do the proper keiko though.”

Minezaki-beya created a board-game type pamphlet about the way to yokozuna for a shin-deshi. On the back more info about the salary and social welfare (all insurance paid by the NSK) at different stages and provisions by the heya etc. after intai.

They want to distribute 1000 of it at middle and high schools events to lure interested youngsters to the heya, after scouting at baseball last year.
