Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted November 25, 2013 Hello gamers! This is the official thread in which to make your entries for the 2014 edition of Metasumo. The rules are very simple. You need to create a stable of sumo GAMERS. This stable will come from the final 2013 Sumo Game World Championship standings, which can be found here: http://www.strongoak.net/sb/2013sbsgwc.htmlYou should choose ONE from each of the rank ranges below:1: 1-52: 6-103: 11-204: 21-405: 41-806: 81-1207: 121-2008: 201+You can choose yourself if you want to!There will be no transfers, so if one of your choices is absent, you'll just get zero for him/her that basho. Each gamer will win you masters points if they finish in the top ten in any of the Superbanzuke games in each basho. All masters points will add to your cumulative total. The winner is the person who has the most points at the end of the year.So pick the gamers who you think will bring you Metasumo glory...try to find the bargains in the lower categories and avoid the one-hit wonders in the top ones!As always, the first prize will be a big kiss on the lips from me. The person who comes last has to debate MasuMasuMasu without defaming him.Enjoy!Simon (Pandaazuma)
Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted November 25, 2013 Here are my picks: 1. Randomitsuki 2. Ganzohnesushi 3. ScreechingOwl 4. Susanoo 5. Achiyama 6. Chishafuwaku 7. KikoCookie 8. Fay Pandaazuma
Randomitsuki 2,826 Posted November 25, 2013 And this is what I came up with: 1. Randomitsuki (how utterly modest...) 2. Ganzohnesushi (though the other four candidates also look very solid) 3. ScreechingOwl (once again, lots of great players to pick from) 4. Kaiowaka (another tough one, with Susanoo, Kaiomitsuki, Gaijingai, Gibuten, and lots of other great players in the same category) 5. nomadwolf (sheesh, it doesn't get easier: Achiyama, Metzinowaka, Takanorappa, Gernobono and Kintamayama also would have been great choices) 6. chishafuwaku (the only other candidate being Ruziklao) 7. Anjoboshi (I hope that he continues to play, he should rank much better) 8. Holleshoryu (again, I don't know how active he is. Tsunamiko, Fay, and Oshirokita also could be great picks)
chishafuwaku 476 Posted November 25, 2013 1. Pandaazuma 2. Tosahayate 3. Gonzaburow 4. Choshu-yuki 5. Metzinowaka 6. chishafuwaku 7. Wamahada 8. Koorifuu chishafuwaku
ScreechingOwl 343 Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Here's my go at the players who will top me: 1. Pandaazuma. Two yokozuna and three ozeki -- there's a reason this group is the best. However, I can't believe anyone is more motivated than Simon to take the top slot. 2. Ganzohnesushi. Two straight top ten finishes. 'Nuff said. 3. Flohru. He's finished one spot above me the top two years running. While I aim to change that, until I do.... 4. Kaiomitsuki. An unbelievably deep group, with another Kaio still at the top of his game. 5. Nomadwolf. I can't see him having two off years in a row. 6. Toonoryu. Always plays me tough. 7. KikoCookie. My favourite player -- my daughter! 8. Fukurou. It's an Owl thing. Ganzohnesushi 516 Posted November 26, 2013 And here is my selection:1. Randomitsuki (in the long run his algorithms might beat the rest of us...)2. Ganzohnesushi (with 4 Top 10 finishes in the last 5 years I have to believe in my own strength)3. Doitsuyama (sooner or later the Empire strikes back....)4. Susanoo (after two sub-par years I assume he will have a much better 2014)5. Achiyama (looking more hungry than the rest in this group)6. chishafuwaku (had a great debut in 2013 and I expect a quick improvement in all areas)7. Anjoboshi (underranked, the question is whether he will continue to play)8. Kitaguni (plays only the 3 Japanese games but I expect more points from the Norizo Cup Yokozuna than he gained in the last three years) 9. Sebastian Vettel Ganzohnesushi

I wanted to pick Tsunamiko, but then I had to pick myself...)

Itachi 396 Posted January 6, 2014 I prepared a big historical meta-banzuke to help analyze these choices. There's so much uncertainty that it probably didn't improve my selections but I enjoy the process. Not all of these were selected 100% objectively but all were among the top prospects in each group by my roughly designed metric. I have no doubts that there will be inconsistencies in my judgements but here they are. 1. Norizo 2. Konosato (lower variance than Tosahayate) 3. Doitsuyama 4. Susanoo 5. Achiyama (demonstrated enthusiasm suggests continuance of positive upward trend) 6. Itachiyama (chosen over myself - tends to finish ahead of me, might play more games) 7. Anjoboshi 8. Oshirokita (gambling on his participation level)
