Sekitori in the pod for body fat measuring again, last in June 2003 for makushita and above 160kg and more rikishi. All rikishi get measured when entering ozumo.

Lowest, while average sekitori have around 30%, Harumafuji with 23%. Shohozan next with 24%: 4% less in spite of 12kg more since he entered in 2006, 135kg now: “That shows how much keiko I have done, doesn't it?”

Most were Aoiyama (192cm, 193kg) with 39%, Kaisei (105cm, 188kg) 38.9%, Masunoyama (180cm, 174kg) 38%.

I know they posted a pic of Hak hopping into the pod on the twitter stream. I was curious if they listed Hakuho's body fat anywhere, since a while ago it came up where he was boasting (well, as much as the model yokozuna boasts) about his % of weight that was muscle.

The rikishi had also an influenza vaccination. Takayasu had dropped from 35% when entering to 32%, while Aoiyama had increased 5%, 48kg more in the 4.5 years he's in sumo.

I think the overall impression this year was that he was really not doing proper keiko with all his PR and other obligations

Do you know where I can find these results for rikishi of the past like Kirishima or Takanohana I. If I remember correctly, at his prime, Chiyonofuji was with 11%.

A maybe stupid question: What is this device really measuring? To me it looks as if it's just measuring the volume of the body. Is that right? With the weight combined, we get the density correct. Deducing the body fat % from that is basically guesswork based on averages, average density of fat, muscles, bones, other tissues, average relative content of fat, muscles, bones, other tissues.

To measure the actual body fat content, a full body MRT should get it right. But this device is not an MRT, is it?

At least I hope it is calibrated by an MRT of some Sumotori. Who were they? If not, I reckon it is just good to produce some funny pictures.
