Yaochoyama 1 Posted January 7, 2014 It seems like we've been fixated on komusubis and M2s lately, how about putting up a M1 or M3 for voting next time. I'm not big on sekiwakes, but it's been awhile, especially with only 3 ozekis: Kotooshu Myogiryu Chiyotairyu
Jejima 1,415 Posted January 7, 2014 Kotooshu it is! Thanks to all for the comments about changing aspects of the game. For the time being (until I have had a proper chance to think about it), we'll stick with the existing rules. Please keep the discussion going about possible changes. In the current times with declining numbers of sumo games players, I am very wary about making this game any more complicated (or time-consuming) then it currently is..... Jejima 1,415 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) 'Guest gyojis' (Sign of approval...) are requested to continue with their excellent help this basho.Announcing the January 2014 edition of Guess Kisenosato's Aite.... But for Kotooshu.... All you have to do is guess S1W Kotooshu's opponent each day, before the torikumi comes out. If you guess correctly, you get a shiroboshi. This is surprisingly more fun (or frustrating) and challenging than it should be. It also gets you to think a bit more about the 'inner-workings' of sumo. Here is the current banzuke:- Yaochoyama (Y1E 9-6) Y1 Profomisakari (Y1W 9-6) Gernobono (O1E 6-9) O1 Jakusotsu (S1W 9-6) S1 Jejima (S1E 6-9) Kuroimori (K1E 4-9-2) K1 XiaoTan (M1W 4-8-3) Shimodahito (M2W 4-9-2) M1 chishafuwaku (M2E 3-12) Andonishiki (M1E 2-6-7) M2 Banzuke-gai hoshihitomi12 (K1W 0-0-15) Comments: Our two Yokozunas are both to be commended for their Jun-yushos in November. It is hoped that one will win the yusho in January. Jakusotsu will be promoted to Ozeki with an Ozeki Quality performance in January. Jejima will be promoted to Ozeki with a Yusho in January. The rules are as follows:-1. Guess S1W Kotooshu's opponents on each day of the basho.2. Entries need to be in before 11:30 am Japan time on the previous day, except for the days 1 and 2 entries which need to be in before 11:30 am Japan time on the Friday prior to the start of the basho. If it turns out that the daily toriukumi is printed before these times, then any entry proved to have come afterwards is not allowed for that day (so enter early to be safe).3. Tie-breakers to decide the Yusho.... We look at the result of the day 15 prediction, then day 14, and so on back to day 1. If still a tie, then the highest ranked on the banzuke can claim the Yusho.4. If Kotooshu goes kyujo during the basho, we switch to S1E Goeido (K1E Myogiryu, then K1W Tochiozan kept further in reserve, if needed due to a mass spate of kyujos) for the days after his fusensho loss (I.e. we can still guess who gets the freebie). For the immediate day afterwards, (unless it is known very soon after the event), everyone will get a 'kyujo'.5. Players that are leading the Yusho race (especially in the final few days of the basho), are requested / expected to get their picks in very early (before all the other players, if possible) - in order to avoid suspicions of 'tactical picking'.Special prizes (many thanks to Yaochoyama):1. Outstanding performance (shukun-sho) - the one who correctly picks the aite the most consecutive days. You have to have a minimum of three to win this prize.2. Fighting spirit (kanto-sho) - the one who limits their incorrect aite picks to the shortest number of consecutive days (literally the one whose longest losing streak is the shortest). Any losing streak of 5 or more days would disqualify you from this prize.3. Technique (gino-sho) - the one who is best at making correct picks when no one, or hardly anyone else does. A point system is used as follows and you need at least 3 points to claim this prize:3 points if you're the only win to make the correct pick2 points if you're one of two to make the correct pick1 point if you're one of three to make the correct pickNew players (Order, order!) are cordially invited to join this game. Andonishiki 170 Posted January 8, 2014 well, as I almost always forget day 1&2, I better get started early with only 3 Ozeki, the pattern is more tricky than usual day 1: Aoiyama (bulgarian championship) day 2: Kisenosato
Profomisakari 873 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Hi torikumi pickers! There is a problem for me: The rules are as follows:-. . .4. If Kyokutenho goes kyujo during the basho, we switch to S1E Goeido (K1E Myogiryu, then K1W Tochiozan kept further in reserve, if needed due to a mass spate of kyujos) for the days after his fusensho loss (I.e. we can still guess who gets the freebie). For the immediate day afterwards, (unless it is known very soon after the event), everyone will get a 'kyujo'. Why should we change from Kotooshu to Goeido (i tak dalsche), if Kyokutenho goes kjuyo. For me seems to be more interesting, if Osh (Osh...) leaves the basho (Shaking head...) Provomisakari Edited January 8, 2014 by Profomisakari

Yaochoyama 1 Posted January 9, 2014 Kotooshu it is! Well the game itself is very simple, though the time-consumption part or doing well might be another story, at least on some days. Here was my suggestion from last basho: "... that we use a point system where each win would be worth 10 points. The reason for this would be that each player on any given day would have the option of making a second pick, and a win by the second pick would be worth 5 points. The catch would be that exercising the second pick option would cost 1 point. " Hopefully this would only add minimal complicaiton to the rules. The other thing going for it is that you can still play the game the same way you always have if you wish. And potentially still do well.

Andonishiki 170 Posted January 9, 2014 I like Yaochoyama's idea in general. but one point seams too cheap, if you can win five. I suggest correct first pick: 8 points correct second pick: 3 points if you get first and second wrong: minus one point

Yaochoyama 1 Posted January 10, 2014 Okay - just announced that Harumafuji is kyujo, about 15-20 minutes before the torikumi is suppose to be announced. While most of you Europeans sleep, I'd like to change my picks to: Day 1 - Ikioi Day 2 - Chiyotairyu I'll let the rest of you argue if this should be allowed or not. I'll accept the verdict either way. Of course if I'm wrong I guess there's nothing to argue about.
