Gurowake 4,088 Posted May 9, 2014 Can anyone provide help for someone with no familiarity in Japanese to get Niji to work? I managed to install it, but once installed I couldn't make much sense of anything. Hitting the play button popped up a screen where it looked like I needed to log in, but I had no idea how to register. I hit random buttons whose functions were unclear and really didn't get anywhere. Others said they could do registration in English, but that doesn't seem possible right now. Maybe I'm in the wrong place? I went to the website that was linked previously in this thread.
Asashosakari 19,441 Posted May 9, 2014 Niji uses http://www.appnnn.com/, just register an account there and use the email address and password inside the Niji application.
Asojima 2,874 Posted May 10, 2014 On Niji, I am now getting a blue box with 2 lines of text near the top of the NHK G channel. It will be a pain while watching Sumo. Is it removable?
Kintamayama 45,252 Posted May 10, 2014 Blue thingy annoying-the only channel that has it. Feed very choppy today-we may have to go old school again this basho..
Jakusotsu 5,986 Posted May 10, 2014 After updating Niji to Version 2.0.4, the video area remains grey and then the app crashes completely after 10-20 seconds (using Win7). Anyone else having this problem?

The original source of the video feed just forgot to switch off epg / teletext programme information display. I'm sure it will go away sooner or later, when the uploader discovers... Jakusotsu 5,986 Posted May 10, 2014 When the app started the first time after updating to 2.0.4, my Firewall asked me to allow access for "ppp_release.exe" - didn't have that before. I allowed it, but as I said, Niji video didn't work anymore. Solution: I uninstalled Niji completely, deleted the exception in my Firewall, and downloaded and installed NijiShow_2.0.4_SETUP.exe manually. This time I did *not* allow ppp_release.exe, and it works again like a charm.
Asameshimae 220 Posted May 10, 2014 Ah that's right. Am I out of luck on a Mac? I was just about to give all this a try.
Asashosakari 19,441 Posted May 10, 2014 Oddly enough, I'm having a completely different Niji issue than those posted before - the stream looks fine in Niji itself, but the same stream viewed through VLC is quite choppy. Any ideas?
Asojima 2,874 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) Niji will only allow me one active logon for my userID. Attempts to logon on a second computer are rejected. Also, I am getting a time stamp in the upper left corner of all stations. Interestingly, the times are 4 to 6 minutes behind real time. The time lags vary from station to station. Kuroyama 715 Posted May 11, 2014 Well, it doesn't matter for me how often I open and close VLC; it's choppy no matter what, with brief pauses about once a second. I'll probably just have to live with the aspect ratio.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) UBS (Mongolian TV), now running on UStream has a much improved video quality. If you don't speak Japanese it isn't that different to Niji and might be a good alternative (presuming that your Mongolian language skills are nonexistent like mine, that is).Sometimes they offer more live broadcast (in case there is a debate or highschool baseball scheduled on NHK)For my part, I am enjoying shonichi on jpPlayer in perfect quality without any problems - well the only problem is that it isn't free of charge ;-) Edited May 11, 2014 by kuroimori
Kintamayama 45,252 Posted May 11, 2014 The stream now has commentary????
Asojima 2,874 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) Niji is running about 4 minutes behind TVJapan. UBS Ustream is only a few seconds behind TVJapan. Day 1 - Essentially lost Niji for about 8 minutes after the Endo match and again for the Harumafuji match. Image quality for the UBS feed is just a step above the old fuzzy vision stuff. Was it mentioned who the commentators were? My guess would be some NSK members or associates. A cheap upgrade to the pay-per-view stream offered by the NSK - but at least they try to improve the stream. Edited May 11, 2014 by kuroimori

Gurowake 4,088 Posted May 11, 2014 DIssapointed in my attempts to watch live. Niji worked for a while, but then cut out for quite a long time. I tried UBS in the interim, but Ustream had this extremely annoying habit of playing ads without warning right before matches would start, and ended up being about one bout ahead of Niji so it wasn't like I had my choice of sources displaying the same thing at the exact same time. I'm probably not going to bother staying up to watch it live as it more or less an exercise in frustration.

To eliminate the ads, google AdBlock Plus, and download the appropriate version for the browser that you use. No more Ustream ads. Seems to be DoskoiFM, the inhouse broadcast of the kokugikan, on the radio to rent there alongside NHK bilingual. The main caster regularly comments on sumo, mostly on other sports (Sports ningen moyou), the いまでしょ channel posts them, last was about Kakuryu, I usually find them quite interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt4eevJYpXc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtHIsfc-9oQ
Asameshimae 220 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) This Jpplayer appears to be windows only. Curse this country and it's Windows-centricness! The price is certainly better if you only pay 30 bucks a month. And you could get a lot more Japanese programming. Too bad most of it is not so good. (Yawning...) Edited May 11, 2014 by Asanomeshi
Kintamayama 45,252 Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) Niji now not working for me at all. Nothing happens on all channels above NHK and including. The ones below all work.. Edited May 12, 2014 by Kintamayama
