Andonishiki 169 Posted January 12, 2014 Araibira`s youtube channel clicks will explode exponancially. google will take notice. they will put their best ads on his channel. his revenues will explode as you get money from google if lots of people watch your channel (and probably click on some of the ads). Google will check if the content is legit... they might - God forbid - get in contact with him and ask for prove. GOD BLESS ARAIBIRA

Asashosakari 18,974 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) Somebody on what is probably going to be the official 2ch complaint thread pointed out that the new pay service was first mentioned on...Ustream's official twitter account. After that the news was picked up by the media and only then, with a significant delay, something about it was posted to the Kyokai's twitter and their homepage. Makes me wonder if the "foreigner living in Japan" that Kinta speculates about is somebody connected to Ustream. It won't come as a surprise that the 2ch denizens think the pricing is ridiculous, too. Edited January 12, 2014 by Asashosakari

Itachiyama 115 Posted January 12, 2014 it's not possible to watch the stream on more than one computer with the same ticket!
Benevolance 2,484 Posted January 12, 2014 I'm highly disappointed that the video quality has not improved in the slightest. You'd think that for a $10 a day ticket they could provide a hi-def stream. :-P

Mark.Buckton 68 Posted January 12, 2014 I would suggest flooding their Twitter, Line, Facebook like pages, etc. with comments expression your feelings about their treatment of fans... http://twitter.com/sumokyokai http://lineat.jp/sumokyokai http://www.facebook.com/groups/274730866011150/ treatment of fans? Sumo is a business. As unpopular as it is, I would suggest anyone paying for TV of other types (NHK, Sky, etc) is being hypocritical if condemning the decision of the NSK. I am the Yokozuna 188 Posted January 12, 2014 I am pretty sure that NSK could monetize better through a dedicated channel on YouTube running Ads rather than through the Ustream Channel, which seems as many things over here half-arsedly done. Not to mention the opportunities for behind the scenes videos, training videos etc. - the things that could be uploaded is limitless and in doing so to increase the income from ads. Heck there are even paid channels over YouTube, why should they have gone the Ustream route? 10,000 JPY per basho is not rather high fee, for Japan, but for whole season would seem more appropriate. And do not get me started with rugby? Paying almost three different fees to watch rugby on JSports, delayed and selected games.......

As unpopular as it is, I would suggest anyone paying for TV of other types (NHK, Sky, etc) is being hypocritical if condemning the decision of the NSK.There is a major difference between paying TVJapan less than US$1 per day (the most expensive premium channel on my cable service) and paying US$10 for about 8 hours of coverage. Treblemaker 254 Posted January 12, 2014 I would suggest flooding their Twitter, Line, Facebook like pages, etc. with comments expression your feelings about their treatment of fans... http://twitter.com/sumokyokai http://lineat.jp/sumokyokai http://www.facebook.com/groups/274730866011150/ treatment of fans? Sumo is a business. As unpopular as it is, I would suggest anyone paying for TV of other types (NHK, Sky, etc) is being hypocritical if condemning the decision of the NSK. The NSK can, and has the right to do anything they want. BUT, to charge ridiculous prices for the lowest possible quality product, and not pre-warn its targeted audience of the move until setting it in motion at the VERY LAST MOMENT shrieks of extreme arrogance and avarice on their part. Yes, Mark, their treatment of their fans is shoddy and reckless. Mark, to support this is to support monopolies and heavy-handed money grabs. This has nothing to do with hypocritical. If ANYTHING, the NSK is being self-serving and arrogant (I can think of no other word to describe this) to expect to hold onto its fans this way, and expect them to cough up exorbitant fees for shitty-as-always quality. I can subscribe to TVJapan for $20 a month. This would include exactly 1 hour of sumo today, and about 1 3/4 hours each day for the rest of the basho. And of course other programming that I would never watch. So, for $20, I get only the tail end of the basho. Not a great deal, but one that's remotely tangible. But there's no way I'm spending that for what I'm getting. And IF the NSK had any marketing skills, and had offered a day of viewing for, let's say, $0.99, (comparable to the price for some iPhone apps) then there wouldn't be this reaction. But to demand $10 a day, and expect people to accept that is in itself hypocritical. Of course it's a business, and the NSK can do whatever they want. Doesn't mean they should, and doesn't mean it's right. And it's aimed directly at the small world-wide group of hard-core fans who used the feed. That in itself is totally unbusinesslike and an unbridled attempt to extort as much revenue as possible from people who had supported their cause, in the thinking that this would be accepted without debate. I don't see how anyone in their right mind could support this move at the prices they demand, and the way they've implemented it.

Sumo is a business. As unpopular as it is, I would suggest anyone paying for TV of other types (NHK, Sky, etc) is being hypocritical if condemning the decision of the NSK. That seems shortsighted. Providing access to viewing Ozumo worldwide through a simple free video feed promotes awareness and understanding of a very fascinating part of traditional Japanese culture, and has the net effect of bringing more paying customers via tourists coming to watch, buy goods, and promote sumo further through their own fan activities. Yo! What up dog?! That report is tight, yo! That is some stone cold hard intel, yeah! I mean, I never would of guessed that some in sumo might not worship at the feet of foreign fans who might attend once in their lives. Keep the big man writing coming, bro. I mean, some writers, man, they do little man reporting, always sniping away from the sidelines, expecting freebies yo. Not you, dog! Can you feel me? You keep it reals...tackling the big issues head on. I can dig it, yo. (Laughing...) (Spooky TV program...) (Zabuton flying...)

ME paying for internet-content i LOVE? i guess you have to be strong now! i also share an nfl-gamepass and........i guess you dislike it.......i am PAYING for it..... fair enough for me - just out of curiosity: how would you rate the value / performance of an NFL GamePass vs. the new 1-Day ticket Ozumo ticket? And in general, I am wondering how much revenue did UStream/NSK make off of this forum (and in total) today with 1-Day and so called "Seasonal" tickets? My guess is that there was quite some nice revenue generated today driven mainly by plain curiosity or lack of alternative live feed options, but come tomorrow, a regular weekday outside Japan, those revenues will drop sharply (at least for most of the forum members). Any thoughts and feedback on purchases are welcome!
