4th Hakuho Cup

A few scenes from the Kokugikan ahead of the 4th Hakuho Cup, which is most probably underway right now as I'm so late.

566 kids from 4 countries, among them Taiho's grandsons in 6th year and middle school 3rd, who lost in the preliminaries. Elementary 2nd year was won by Tokitsukaze-oyakata's 2nd son.

Hakuho's back strength measuring as attraction during the midday break, 15 sekitori were present, also Harumafuji. Hakuho was 2nd, top with 257kg was Shotenro, but Hakuho won the hand pushing sumo event final against Toyonoshima.

Nearly sumo sage talento Hanawa's son Genki Hanawa (13, 172cm, 92kg) had his nationwide sumo tournament debut at the Hakuho cup after training as member of the Saga city sumo club on the 1st at Tokitsukaze-beya with Toyonoshima. He won several regional tournaments, mainly in judo.

At the Hakuho cup 2014 on Feb. 2nd in the kokugikan more than 500 kids from 4 countries (after Korea new from China) will take part, in 2015 also from Georgia, Estonia and Russia.

Next time maybe also with kids from the US and Colombia etc.

Middle school champion was 3rd year Kawaue, the nephew of Onoe-oyakata (Hamanoshima). Last year he had won both the national districts- and national middle school tournament. After High school he wants to enter Onoe-beya: “I will become yokozuna”.

This must have been the event that was just finishing as I went into the basement for Dewanoumi's retirement party. Different extrances clearly marked but only by metal barriers. Got one shot of a line-up outside.
