Benevolance 2,501 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) Harumafuji looked really convincing over Endo on day 2 and solid against Toyonoshima on day 1. For someone who was rumoured to be going kyujo for this tournament, he is looking pretty good. But my big shout out goes to Baraki for his excellent win over Oazuma! Masumasumasu 902 Posted March 10, 2014 Harumafuji looks good but he must be in a lot of pain? Regarding Oosunaarashi's toupee, is he the first top-division rikishi to be forced to wear a hairpiece?

krindel 671 Posted March 10, 2014 I will take a rikishi with fake hair anytime over a rikishi trying to make a mage out of whatever hair the tokoyama can find...
Senkoho 552 Posted March 10, 2014 The fake hair is a terrible idea in my opinion. I can't really put my finger on why exactly, but somehow it seems wrong to me.

On the upside, hansoku against him will be absolutely indisputable when his opponent ends up with a detached mage in his hand.
shumitto 418 Posted March 10, 2014 Leaving the "VOGUE" thread aside just for a second, the most relevant thing of his last bout was the way Myogiryu feel on Osunaarashi's leg. By the way the Egyptian looks stronger and heavier. I was afraid Goeido would lose to Kaisei of all people. He didn't though I am getting used to see him go 4-0 just to start losing left and right. Chiyomaru is nice addition to Makuuchi, methinks. Heavy, aggressive and funny-looking, I think of him as "otouto". Also the mix of styles makes for an interesting juryo division, or maybe it is just me back to enjoying it more.

I actually was thinking that the current Juryo banzuke is a bit underwhelming. With all the exciting youngsters we have been enjoying in Juryo the past year (like Endo, Osunaarashi, Terunofuji, Chiyomaru, Takanoiwa, even Chiyootori) appearing in Makuuchi now, my impression is that the Juryo ranks seem to be very much depleted and definitely of less interest than the recent past. I am hoping for at least a couple of new faces coming up from Makushita to spice things up next basho. Then again, anyone's mileage may vary :)

The lack of outstanding talents leaves the path open for Makuuchi veterans, injury returnees and the like. It is not a good division in terms of the current talent pool, but in itself I think it can provide for a competitive tournament down to the very end.
Benevolance 2,501 Posted March 11, 2014 It's nice to see Thor, God of Thunder Amuru back in Juryo.
ALAKTORN 346 Posted March 11, 2014 Damn, Kakuryu... He does way too much retreating sumo. He showed he can go forward against Hakuho last time, so why doesn't he do that?
Gusoyama 103 Posted March 11, 2014 Thoughts on Day 4: Chiyomaru continues to impress me, even in a loss. Seems fairly nimble for being so big, today's bout with Osunaarashi was a treat. How was that Satoyama/Jokoryu match not a matta? Awkward as a first kiss. Good to see the Kotoshgiku bumpity-bump back in action. Kotooshu is about as good as expired yogurt at this point. Kakuryu has been doing more pulling as the basho goes on. Not good. I fully expected a HARD right hand smack from Hakuho on Endo's face wound. Was not necessary. Good to see Harumafuji back with that swagger Speaking of swagger, Kisenosato looks so damn good when he's not under pressure.

Apparently, he is going to wait until he reaches sanyaku, has the oichiyo, etc.
shumitto 418 Posted March 11, 2014 Everyone in the Yokozuna & Ozeki ranks perfoming well and winning but Kakuryu. Too much backpedalling and a strong Okinoumi, who has looked good in wins as well as in losses, didn't show any forgiveness. Okinoumi looks good for a double-digit record. Kotooshu has put any doubts about his ozeki-worthiness to rest with that kind of performance. Chiyotoori can reach san'yaku before much-hailed Endo. Who knows ? younger brother also looks good. Osunaarashi has won three very different bouts with different sumo styles. Should he keep that pace he will be in joi-jin quite soon.
Masumasumasu 902 Posted March 11, 2014 Oosunaarashi ought to be careful of the brute-force stuff. That's how a person gets injured.

I think Ichinojō shouldn’t have let the opponent go for that makikae at the end, he might’ve won if he tried to stop it. kuroimori 1,634 Posted March 12, 2014 What the hell is going on with Myogiryu? I am not sure whether he is still injured or he just underestimates the competition in the lower Makuuchi ranks - or probably both?
