Itachiyama 119 Posted June 13, 2004 Sumo: Grand champion Asashoryu wins knockout tourney TOKYO, June 13, Kyodo - Fiery grand champion Asashoryu disposed of two of his fellow Mongolians en route to claiming his first title at a sumo knockout tournament in Tokyo on Sunday. Asashoryu, who won his third straight Emperor's Cup at last month's Summer Grand Sumo Tournament, ousted up-and-coming Hakuho in the semifinals before blasting out Kyokutenho in the final at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan. Coo-cook 0 Posted June 14, 2004 www.japan-sumo.ru (a russian sumo site) writes Asasekiryu and Hokutoriki are also disposed by Asashoryu on the way to finals. Juryu tournament is won by Ama who dumped Tokitenku in the final bout. It seems the knockout tourney was all Mongolian affair (very boring). Where are the rest ? They didn't participate ?
