Sumo: Grand champion Asashoryu wins knockout tourney

TOKYO, June 13, Kyodo - Fiery grand champion Asashoryu disposed of two of his fellow Mongolians en route to claiming his first title at a sumo knockout tournament in Tokyo on Sunday.

Asashoryu, who won his third straight Emperor's Cup at last month's Summer Grand Sumo Tournament, ousted up-and-coming Hakuho in the semifinals before blasting out Kyokutenho in the final at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.

Along with the title, Asashoryu also won 2.5 million yen in prize money.

And if anyone saw the show on TV etc you may have seen Nishinoshima and ANR in the 7th row as 'you' looked at the dohyo.

www.japan-sumo.ru (a russian sumo site) writes Asasekiryu and Hokutoriki are also disposed by Asashoryu on the way to finals.

Juryu tournament is won by Ama who dumped Tokitenku in the final bout.

It seems the knockout tourney was all Mongolian affair (very boring).

Where are the rest ? They didn't participate ?
