Bench World Cup 2014

Group C (Maguroyama, Jejima, Pandaazuma, shimodahito): Your deadline will also be six hours before the World Cup kicks off. Well, Pandaazuma pulled a fast one and already has sent his lineup to me.

But anyways, please send me as soon as possible your list of penalty takers for the round of 16 matches. (I'll send a copy of mine and Fujiko's to Achiyama and Jakusotsu, to stop us from cheating.). The deadline is before the first kick-off of the tournament, so Thursday, 12th June, 18:00 (Brazil time), Thursday, 12th June, 06:00 (JST). Anyone missing this deadline, gets a yellow card (as per the fair play rules). Anyone not entering a penalty taker line-up before the first match of the tournament kicks off Thursday, 12th June, 18:00 (Brazil time), Saturday 9th June, 06:00 (JST)) will be 'assigned' a penalty taker list in the reverse order of the player's teams' odds at the start of the tournament, as previously given. (I.e. your lower Maegashira pick first, with your Yokozuna pick last, and no team for slot 11.)

I'm already lost in the time zones, but not only me (Scratching chin...) (Thinking in depth...)

I think Thursday, 12th June, 18:00 (Brazil time) is Friday, 13th June, 06:00 (JST).

As for me, I will stay at JST, at least all of us (hopefully) got used to it. :-)

Well spotted!

Just realised that most of this World Cup is going to be taking place whilst I am at work. (Blowing up furiously...)

looks like the going rate is 6 hours, so can group d (excepting harumataikai, who's already done) send me their lineups at least 6 hours in advance of the first match?

also, i'm of course rooting for my home country of the usa, but also, i continue to have adopted uruguay from the uruguayan guy at work. also i'd like japan to do well. actually, are there any villains in world cup? i don't really know who to root against. i need a bad guy. who can be my bad guy?

Group E for Effort, for Exciting, for Exemplary, for Enjoy the cup. Ditto-ing all others with a 6 hour deadline for your line ups. I sent a message so hope achiyama, chabonowaka, chijanofuji, furanohana are ready to pick wisely.

note: Group C is Brazil-less!

you need bad guys ??

a team to root against ?

well, froma German perspective, this is easy:

take HOLLAND ;)

uups, I picked them in my squad...

well... that's just a psychological hedge ;)

you need statistics & tons of infos about all teams ?

done from world class statistic freaks ?

you need their prediction for every single game ??

then look here:

http://www.goldmansachs.com/our-thinking/outlook/world-cup-and-economics-2014-folder/world-cup-economics-report.pdf

all in one pdf !

but keep in mind, they did a similar piece in 2010 and predicted Brazil to win...

that was wrong...

To my group F people. I'm going with 6 hours prior as the deadline. That's noon on Friday, Japan time.

Email will be the best way to reach me, though I have already learned that PMs come in through my email thanks to one if you already getting your picks in, so PM will work too if you'd like.

I look forward to the matches. Lets do this!

Some admin....

I lost my Internet connection yesterday afternoon, but it is back up and running. I had to delete some more PMs from my inbox, as it was full - so if you tried to send me your Penalty takers by that method yesterday, I might not have received them (see below for the list of players who's line-ups I am still waiting for.)

Thank you to shumitto for finding a good website for checking the times of matches (I was using BBC, and then converting (wrongly) from UK time to Brazil time). Thanks to Achiyama for showing the correct time of the first match.

It looks as if most refiojis are giving a 6 hour deadline. Checking the Wikipedia website, it looks as though the 2nd round of matches actually start slightly before the first round of matches end! This means that we will need to submit our second round picks before the first round is completed (so will be doing so without seeing the 'form' of the teams in Group H). Very inconsiderate of FIFA, but we will have to go along with that....

Does any refioji have all their teams entries yet? When you have all four line-ups, publish here as soon as you can.

One player asked me what is the coding for embedding youtube videos here, so that it can be included in a comment. I'm afraid I don't know. Can someone advise?

I have now received penalty takers for 18 players. I am waiting for the PK takers from the 14 following players....

Achiyama, andonishiki, Chijanofuji, chishafuwaku, Chocshoporyu, Daineko, Fujiyama, Furanohana, Jakusotsu, kamogawa, Kaiomitsuki, KikoCookie, Kintamayama, Kotononami, kuroimori, Leonishiki, Maguroyama, Nekonishiki, Pitinosato, Rubensan, Saruyama, ScreechingOwl, shumitto

The deadline is kick-off for the Brazil vs Croatia first round match - but I would prefer to get this admin finished quickly.

Not sure yet, but according the FIFA website, the first match kicks off at 5am Japan time, not 6am...so check to be sure...would be a nightmare to miss the first hour.

Wow...no idea why the last message (my 666th!) was with such small letters.

Pandaazuma has Group G line-ups from Domichi and Kuroimori...awaiting those from Pitinosato and Kamogawa.

Hi!

Regarding the Penalty Takers....

I now have line-ups for 25 players (although I think Saruyama made a mistake, and so might need to resend - and Daineko onlyt sent me 8 PK takerrs, so might want to send me 3 more....)

The players that I am waiting to hear from are the following 7:-

Chocshoporyu, Daineko, Furanohana, kamogawa, KikoCookie, Kotononami, Maguroyama, Pitinosato, Rubensan and ScreechingOwl

The deadline for penalty takers - and for the first round line-ups are fast approaching! Please send your PK takers to me, and your line-ups to the refiojis ASAP.

When a refioji has received all four line-ups for his group, please add to this thread as early as possible, to encourage the others ;-)

Message to refiojis......

As soon as you receive all four correct line-ups, announce them to this thread (and before the Brazil vs Croatia match). Add you own comments.... E.g. Jejima vs Fujiko will likely depend on the results of the Russia vs South Korea match.

Actually I do have all four (correct) lineups for Group C, but I hesitate to announce them already. I suppose they can be changed until the deadline, no? But wouldn't be unwise to allow a change after knowing the aite's lineup? So what's the deal? Publish now, don't allow changes? Or allow changes (not recommended)? Or publish after deadline?

No changes allowed once they are published. Go ahead and publish!

I think the understanding is that once sent, a line-up is final. The admin is already a pain without people changing their minds!

Regarding my group, still waiting for Kamogawa (who is busy, I'm told) and Pitinosato.

Achiyama: Fujiyama says he sent his line-up today. Did you get it? I ask because Mark is a prize muppet and often forgets stuff!

Group B Round 1 line-ups

Well, hardly more than 24 hours to the kick-off. I hope the game will go smoothly. Even if I haven't got the slightest idea of result counting. :D But hopefully I can manage it, learning how colleagues do.

chishafuwaku

1. France

It´s not time to put my ® country in best position ? I guess not... Spain is dangerous...

Between me and KikoCookie there are only two entries equal: Portugal and Greece.
So it will be very difficult to predict the outcome of our meeting.

Nevertherless...

The entry in her lower positions must be 10. Bosnia, 9. Croatia, 8. Algeria, 7.Grécia (I believe that Colombia is 1.) and maybe 6. Cameroon.

After that, if Kiko does not believe in Cristiano Ronaldo, 5. Portugal (but you will see Ronaldo will score)

Spain, Italy (against England) and Switzerland, in this order 2, 3, respectively?
If that is the case, the most important meeting will be Ecuador-Switzerland, which is my fourth and my ©.

Go Go Ecuador, you cannot fail... because there are France...

My daughter certainly did better in pulling Spain than I did in getting stuck with Australia (who will be fortunate to get a goal, never mind a point), but I seem to have easier first day match ups. I'm sure that will change when we face each other!

(I hope ScreechingOwl doesn't mind I put this as a pre-basho, ...er..., pre-world cup comment - Nekonishiki)

Round 1 Lineups - Group H

shumitto : 1. Belgium ® , 2. Brazil , 3. Switzerland , 4. Nigeria , 5. Mexico , 6. Australia © , 7. England , 8. Netherlands , 9. Iran, 10. Bosnia

vs.

Doitsuyama : 1. Chile , 2. Spain © , 3. Mexico , 4. Italy , 5. Japan , 6. South Korea , 7. Greece , 8. Portugal , 9. Bosnia , 10. Algeria ®

Comment: Obviously I selected Algeria to represent me to have a ® to

safely hide at the end of the lineup (especially against Belgium). And I

certainly like to have a © team like Spain which really isn't expected

to lose against anyone. But this and Chile facing Australia are pretty

much the lone bright points as my team is facing a daunting lineup

(speaking of real opponents) with opponents including Argentina,

Germany, England, Netherlands, Belgium and Colombia. Actually, England

and Netherlands are on shumittos team making these games

(Spain-Netherlands and Italy-England) especially important. Still, with

Belgium and Brazil possibly scoring three goals, I think he is favored

even if Spain and Italy win.

Nekonishiki : 1. Spain , 2. Portugal , 3. Ghana , 4. Russia ® , 5. Nigeria , 6. Italy , 7. Australia , 8. Mexico © , 9. Iran , 10. Netherlands

vs.

Rubensan : 1. Brazil , 2. Nigeria , 3. Italy © , 4. Switzerland , 5. Ivory Coast , 6. Portugal , 7. Netherlands , 8. South Korea ® , 9. Honduras , 10. Bosnia

Comment: Our yokozunas, Brazil and Spain, can be decisive here. Brazil's match seems to be easier, let's see what happens. Switzerland can be very important for me as well.

vs.

Jakusotsu: 1. Spain, 2. Switzerland ©, 3. Uruguay, 4. Italy, 5. Cameroon, 6. Ghana, 7. USA, 8. Iran, 9. Croatia ®, 10. Netherlands

Andonishiki: 1. France, 2. Brazil, 3. Nigeria, 4. Mexico ®, 5. Ecuador, 6. Russia ©, 7. South Korea, 8. Netherlands, 9. Portugal, 10. Algeria
