torquato 1,075 Posted May 24, 2014 Todays NHK Saturday Sports News: Interesting especially for the comments made by Harumafuji and Kisenosato after their bout.Could somebody please explain to me what æăăȘă exactly means here and what Kisenosato is saying with ăă€ă...æ°æăĄ...? I don't quite get it.
ALAKTORN 346 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) The nukenai just means that he couldnât âpull it outâ as in, removing the hand from Kiseâs hair. Iâm not sure what kimochi wo kirasanaide ikitai means, but I presume something like âI wonât let my feelings waver and do my bestâ. Edit: or maybe something like âI want to keep going without losing heartâ. Edit: btw itsumo dĆri just means âlike usualâ. I guess heâs just doing what he always does. Kotomikey 10 Posted May 25, 2014 Moti, thank you for your hard work. If you did not do this, I would not be able to enjoy sumo. You put the videos together perfectly.
ALAKTORN 346 Posted May 25, 2014 Iâve always thought it would be cool if we had a translation of the yĆ«shĆ interviews. Does anyone know if there are any? And I have a question: does anyone understand what the question and answer are at 7:20 in the video? I think HakuhĆ messed up his Japanese in the question âif you were to lose, thereâd be a kettei-sen against Kisenosato, what were your feelings?â, and replied something like âI went at it intending to have a rematch with Kisenosatoâ, at which point the interviewer got confused, I think HakuhĆ meant to say that he was ready for a rematch if that were to happen, not that he wanted it. lol He also said he was really tired and planned to eat lots of meat today. His father and mother were there, and he mentioned something about his father being ill from 2 years so they couldnât come as often(?).
ALAKTORN 346 Posted May 25, 2014 Jasonâs coverage shows that KakuryĆ« was bleeding profusely after the bout! I wonder at what point he got hurtâŠ?
Shikona 148 Posted May 25, 2014 Kintamayama, much appreciation for all of your efforts. You have realized what I think must be the goal of a video artist--your creations are in many ways better than watching the event live.

yorikiried by fate 2,028 Posted May 25, 2014 Just how evil is Terunofuji? That was basically a new kimarite he showed on senshuraku. Kimezuridashi? Tsurikimedashi? New nick: Terrornofuji.
yorikiried by fate 2,028 Posted May 25, 2014 Also Ichinojo is a beast. Looks like Kitanoumi, for me. Sadly all the new protagonists won't exactly paint a smile on the keepers of Nihon's flame...
Millwood 41 Posted May 25, 2014 Kintamayama - domo arigato goziamasu. Subarashi deshta. Moti - toda rabah I am amazed at the care you put into the recaps. They keep sumo alive for me, and for many others. And effort is enough - please let us know if there is financial cost - because that we can fix!
Akinomaki 40,551 Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) Sunday Sports with the traditional live appearance of the yusho winner. This time Demon-kakka was there to interview Hakuho.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hi61cc0Z0AHakuho implied that he lost to Goeido because he thought he got him and didn't want to add the extra shove the kyokai had demanded to refrain from.He was asked about the yusho interview with his remark of going into the last day (with the "intention" of having)/ready to do two bouts (nothing wrong with that in Japanese), affirming that actually he went straight for the yusho, "do it in one strike". ALAKTORN 346 Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) He was asked about the yusho interview with his remark of going into the last day (with the "intention" of having)/ready to do two bouts (nothing wrong with that in Japanese), affirming that actually he went straight for the yusho, "do it in one strike".Uhm, could I ask for a better explanation of this? I hear him talk about Kokonoe and Chiyotaikai when answering that question, what are they actually saying? Can you make a transcription? æŻćșŠéšć±ă§ä»æ„ăŻăäșçȘćăă€ăăăăšèšăŁăăźăăšăăăŁăăăŁăŠăŸăăă ăăă§ăăăăăźă»ă»ă»ïŒïŒïŒ I donât get what comes next. Because the whole feeling I get is the fact that like I earlier thought, the Japanese are a bit confused by HakuhĆâs remark (due to wrong Japanese), and heâs explaining himself⊠but what you wrote doesnât seem to imply that. Also that interview has quite a few interesting things in it, I think. If I have the time I might try to translate a few later. My godâ when they review the vs. Kisenosato tachi-ai, he was grinning through it all, that must have been embarassing. He mustâve been thinking: âHow do I explain to them that it was all a dirty tactic?â. Oh my god, Kakka actually makes the question: âIt looked like you aimed for the time when Kisenosato wasnât preparedâ, I donât understand the answer, though. Why am I doing live commentary on this video? In one part HakuhĆ says that he thinks of himself as being ever-25 years old. Kakka asked him if his age was catching up to him, but he replies ânot at all, I think of myself as 25â. In another he mentions how the time intervals have changed with 3 yokozuna, the fact that when he is the first of the 3 going, he has the bout right after the dohyĆ-iri and has no time to fix his mage or cool down, and that makes it harder. Gurowake 4,062 Posted May 27, 2014 In another he mentions how the time intervals have changed with 3 yokozuna, the fact that when he is the first of the 3 going, he has the bout right after the dohyĆ-iri and has no time to fix his mage or cool down, and that makes it harder. Could you elaborate on this? Not having attended an actual basho and only having watched the Kintamayama recaps or araibira individual bouts, I wouldn't know this, but you seem to imply with this that the Yokozuna Dohyo-iri always occur right before the third-to-last match of the day. This doesn't seem impossible to me (and I'm guessing it would change if they had 4 Yokozuna), but it seems a little weird. I had assumed it always was right after the Makuuchi dohyo-iri. I've also assumed the entire dohyo-iri, both normal and Yokozuna, happens every day of the basho, but I'm uncertain on this point.
Asameshimae 220 Posted May 27, 2014 The yokozuna dohyo-iri, all three now, are always right after the makuuchi dohyo-iri that I have ever seen. On senshuraku there is something called sanyakusoroibumi where sanyaku and higher wrestlers get up before the last 3 matches to do a sort of stomping ceremony. The Yokozuna dohyo-iri comes after the Makuuchi dohyo-iri. Hakuhou was used to fighting at the end of the day. For us, the nearly two hours between those two are a lot of time. Hakuhou needs all the time he can get to relax, get his hair done and whatever. The whole difference is actually 5 minutes, but I guess to him it is critical, as he says it is "totally different" . Kakka even points out that his only loss of the basho came when he was the first Yokozuna up.

I can imagine that it must have been a big change for him when he had to fight from the west side for the first time in ages after Harumafuji got promoted. I can just picture him backstage asking for directions to the west hanamichi :-P
