Could somebody please explain to me what 抜けない exactly means here and what Kisenosato is saying with いつも...気持ち...? I don't quite get it.

The nukenai just means that he couldn’t “pull it out” as in, removing the hand from Kise’s hair. I’m not sure what kimochi wo kirasanaide ikitai means, but I presume something like “I won’t let my feelings waver and do my best”. Edit: or maybe something like “I want to keep going without losing heart”.

Edit: btw itsumo dōri just means “like usual”. I guess he’s just doing what he always does.

I’ve always thought it would be cool if we had a translation of the yūshō interviews. Does anyone know if there are any?

And I have a question: does anyone understand what the question and answer are at 7:20 in the video?

I think Hakuhō messed up his Japanese in the question “if you were to lose, there’d be a kettei-sen against Kisenosato, what were your feelings?”, and replied something like “I went at it intending to have a rematch with Kisenosato”, at which point the interviewer got confused, I think Hakuhō meant to say that he was ready for a rematch if that were to happen, not that he wanted it. lol

He also said he was really tired and planned to eat lots of meat today. His father and mother were there, and he mentioned something about his father being ill from 2 years so they couldn’t come as often(?).

Hakuho implied that he lost to Goeido because he thought he got him and didn't want to add the extra shove the kyokai had demanded to refrain from.

Uhm, could I ask for a better explanation of this? I hear him talk about Kokonoe and Chiyotaikai when answering that question, what are they actually saying? Can you make a transcription?

Because the whole feeling I get is the fact that like I earlier thought, the Japanese are a bit confused by Hakuhō’s remark (due to wrong Japanese), and he’s explaining himself… but what you wrote doesn’t seem to imply that.

Also that interview has quite a few interesting things in it, I think. If I have the time I might try to translate a few later.

My god– when they review the vs. Kisenosato tachi-ai, he was grinning through it all, that must have been embarassing. He must’ve been thinking: “How do I explain to them that it was all a dirty tactic?”. Oh my god, Kakka actually makes the question: “It looked like you aimed for the time when Kisenosato wasn’t prepared”, I don’t understand the answer, though. Why am I doing live commentary on this video?

In one part Hakuhō says that he thinks of himself as being ever-25 years old. Kakka asked him if his age was catching up to him, but he replies “not at all, I think of myself as 25”.

Could you elaborate on this? Not having attended an actual basho and only having watched the Kintamayama recaps or araibira individual bouts, I wouldn't know this, but you seem to imply with this that the Yokozuna Dohyo-iri always occur right before the third-to-last match of the day. This doesn't seem impossible to me (and I'm guessing it would change if they had 4 Yokozuna), but it seems a little weird. I had assumed it always was right after the Makuuchi dohyo-iri. I've also assumed the entire dohyo-iri, both normal and Yokozuna, happens every day of the basho, but I'm uncertain on this point.

The yokozuna dohyo-iri, all three now, are always right after the makuuchi dohyo-iri that I have ever seen. On senshuraku there is something called sanyakusoroibumi where sanyaku and higher wrestlers get up before the last 3 matches to do a sort of stomping ceremony.

I can imagine that it must have been a big change for him when he had to fight from the west side for the first time in ages after Harumafuji got promoted. I can just picture him backstage asking for directions to the west hanamichi :-P
