Pic Pickin' - Intai

Recommended Posts

For (too) many years, I have been posting daily recaps of the basho pics that appear on the Japanese press websites. For the last couple years, my enthusiasm for the project has been eroding, and it is now near rock bottom. Accordingly, the posting for senshuraku will be my final regular pic contribution.

Akinomaki has been my able backup poster, and he has offered to continue making daily posts on a delayed/time available basis. If another forum member were to pick up the effort, it would ease the heavy burden that Akinomaki is already carrying.

If someone else picks up the mantle, I will be happy to share some of the techniques that I have developed to make extractions from the websites and to serve as an occasional backup poster.

My other forum activities will remain basically unchanged. You are still stuck with my presence.

Yes, it has been a long while since I intai-ed myself from the daily pics and passed the baton to you. You have done a great job. Out of curiosity I opened all my old bookmarks for daily pics and most of them no longer work at, times are a changing!

IIRC the original daily pic man was Kintamayama, who was the caption king.

Time for a newcomer to "step up the tawara" and contribute!

I have been collecting the Japanese net papers and pics for nearly 20 years now and I don't think I'll stop doing it as long as I can sit in front of a PC. I posted pic digests to the SML for a few years and when joining the forum after an over 10 year blank I did again some pic posts, watching how Asojima was posting that for the basho. During the basho his pic posts were always enjoyable for me, it meant I had no need for doing an extra pic selection for me. If he doesn't post, I have to make a digest for me anyway - arranging it into a presentable form and sharing it is a manageable task, even if I have to do it for all days of the basho. I save everything and can e.g. do the whole week's load on the weekend, should I don't find the time earlier.

I would prefer though to have another forum member to join in with this work. It would be possible to share my system solution for ease of work, but the core is an eternal prototype, permanently under development: the problems with using it for one who hasn't written the BASIC routines may make it more ineffective than doing everything by hand. Still I can share my techniques in addition to those Asojima uses - I focus more on the whole articles though.

I have been lurking around here a lot longer than my posting would indicate and have always loved the daily pics. By the detail of so many of them I knew someone right on the sidelines was taking the pics in most cases, but to be honest I had no idea where you and others were getting them. Now I know. Thanks for your hard work. Those frozen moments in sumo were/are beauties to behold.
