pleasure island theme park cleethorpes---Health warning

Recommended Posts

I went to the pleasure island theme park in my home town today, despite being open for many years I have never been

I've been to Skegness and Butlins many times despite being a lot smaller, less exiting rides and a hours drive away..

I went with two of my friends wayne(Yes the same one in my signature and present landlord after I got evicted from my last home) and Jason most famous in my life as the only of my friends who would do a parachute jump with me when 4-5 changed their minds at the last minute(1997-Thats anoher story though)

Oh and an ongoing feud in the early-mid 1990's fuelled by drink and fairly regular punch ups that ended with a certain camaraderie when we did the parachute jump no one else would and earned a new respect for each other

it was really a birthday outing for me since I dont drink anymore and since the birthday boy decides I decided not to go pubbing(I dont mind but its boring when I dont drink)

I wanted to give you a run down on the scarefactor for the rides we went on.....

There was only two refusals or "no way am I going on that...."

I said no to the dodgems because I just dont like them...

Jason said no to "hydromax" and to be honest I think I may say no next time because at the time it was by far the scariest ride I have ever been on but by the end of the day one innoccent looking ride took me to whole new level of fear I've never encountered anywhere, ever, doing any thing......

Read on the countdown begins

8 rides.....

8 Gravitron -Soon as I saw the kids well this cant be bad if they let little kids on....(Not always true though-read #4)

The scariest bit was the lady in the centre of the ride giving safety instruction-/I leaned over to wayne and said I hope there was nothing important I didn't hear a word of it(Noticed in the last few years that my eyes and ears dont seem to work aswell as they did)

About as scary as a butterfliy buzzing past your ear.......

7 The Ghost Train- Sorry I cant suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy this-Sary as two butterflies buzzing past your ears....

6 Alakazam-A bit scary due to lying flat and facing the floor,I spent most of the ride pretending I was a tailgunner shooting Wayne-Jason in the ride in front and whistling the dambusters theme..

5 Pendulus-I think it might have been scarier than I remember but I finally made an effort to relax and It worked but I didn't know what was to come or I may have wet myself........(See #1)

4 Hyperblaster-Was the first ride I underestimated mostly little kids so I wasn't worried it only had one scare but it was a big one,as it dropped that first time I was caught out and I let out a few expletives that the kids and probably the rest of the park heard......

http://www.pleasure-island.co.uk/rides/white-knuckle-rides/hyperblaster.html

3 Boomerang-Was the first ride we went on,and possibly the last of the rides on this list I will go on again....As they strapped us in I suddenly realised I have never been on a propper rollercoaster before,Kiddies roller coasters and a couple of the old wooden ones but this was gonna be my first loop the loop and 1st going upside down I let out a lot of expletives and W+J said they heard a few "HELPS and MUMMY" and get me off,get me off" Im not so sure though I think I saved all of them for #1+2

http://www.pleasure-island.co.uk/rides/white-knuckle-rides/boomerang.html

2 Hydramax-Was the one that really scared the living crap out of me,......

As I got with wayne(Oh one more important warning dont ever get on a ride with Wayne he likes to take any opportunity to scare you even more, luckily I suspect he was scared himself but he does'nt squeel like a pig like me and shout I'm going to die) Wayne said we wwill be left at the top full height while the other end was loaded....Wayne I said I did a parachute at 3500 feet, that didnt scare being at the top of this ride wont scare me so I will have plenty of air left in me to vocalise my fear when it start moving--And boy did I ever,I think I swore and cursed and shouted HELP from start to fininish...My advie for anyone going it or similar say your prayers before you get on and thank him when you reurn safely.....

Here we are to the #1 scariest ride of today and ever, possibly the scariest moments of my life........

Its name "THE OBLITERATOR"

This fairly inoccuouss looking ride took me past the "Oh F***s,The Helps, the cries of Mummy and Get me off" Actually there was a lot of get me off and stop the ride but on this ride I REALLY MEANT IT I really thought I was going to die." The reason being I am 5:3 and 9 stone soaking wet and I swear right here even now with steady ground under my feet that if I had let go of the handbar I would slipped through the ride and landed on that attendant who W+J said was laughing at me as I hung on for dear life(literally)

Now i know you will tell me that I had nothing to worry about but Mistakes have been made, people have died in accidents on rides so you cant guarantee my safety based on previous rides Jason and Wayne are both 6ft give an inch or 2 and both 3-4 stone heavier than me they wouldnt have to worry about slipping past the bar(wayne wouldn't need the bar he could wedge himself in and probably struggle to get out when he wanted too.. ;-)

As I hung on I realised if I wanted I could slip myself out past the not so safe harness and If I could do it then It must be easy to slip out when the rides in motion...I am beggining to understand the height restrictions needed for some rides...

So for anyone thinking of going to the pleasure island Cleethorpes(view Links or if you just want to see the rides I'm talking about see what all the fuss is) If you are over 5:6 or 10 stone I hope you have a good time But dont eat before going on the hydramax or the boomerang,

If you 5:4 and under 10 stones dont go on the obliterator if you ignore this make sure your insurance premiums are up to date and if you do fall and die dont complain to me......

And before any of you say i am a scaredy cat, how many parachute jumps have you done and with a partially collapsed canopy aswell which according to the instructer was caused by not getting clear of the plane when I jumped out the aircraft door my pack hit the outside of plane....

Not a great exit but not as bad as my friend jason who went up in a seperate group while we waited below......

As we saw the plane reach the drop point nobody jumped and we thought he had bottled it(Too scared to jump) but the plane circled round back to the speified drop point and this time the familiar figure of lanky Jason left the the plane....

He had no problem with the parahute landed safely so we wanted to know what happened......

Jasan and the instruter explained that when he gave Jason the instrution to get himself to the door Jason was facing in the wrong direction so the instructed brought him back into the plane to change his position but whether he was just stupid or nervous he was slow getting in and they missed the drop point so they circled back to the position and again the instructer to Jason to get ready and he did but facing the wrong way again.....

At this(we was watching it on video)the instructor said "dont JUMP" but Jason didnt hear the dont,he just heard the JUMP so he jumped facing the wrong direction but had no problems which his chute even though his was the lowest score for his jump and I was seond lowest....

One other thing,me and Jason had one fact that applied to no other person who jumped that day and still applies to me now but not Jason anymore......

Just a bit of fun,no prizes does anybody wanna guess what It was..

I think its an easy one but its just for fun....

No takers? Re-read the message especially the parachute jump and bear this in mind- Neither Me or Jason had ever been in an airplane before and I still haven't meaning I have only been in a plane taking off once and as yet I have never landed in one.....I like to say I have been up in a plane but they threw me out half way...

Still anyone think I'm a scaredy cat? ;-)

Thanks everyone.......

in my previous messag, i said my friend wayne likes to scare me on the rides...

case in pointl-

wanyne and me went on a on ride which like was shaped like a " Big wheel with cages at strategical points" for passengers;;;;;;

We got ino one of the cages, the ride begins;;;;;;;

Wayne now started to spin the cage repeatedly and now I start to scream at him he pays no heed and the spins continue- After we are back on the ground,Wayne asks what all the fuss for,you must have been terified............

No I wasnt frightened but I dropped 5 pound coins in the cage and when I bent down to pick it up,you spun the wheel again and I watched my coins slide and drop through a hole in the cage,Thats why I was screaming for you to stop I wanted to grab my money back.and couldnt do that with you spinning the cage......

I thought the way charity jumps worked were the person jumping paying for it PLUS raising money. Not using the sponsorship to get an experience.

The only thing i can think of,is that the jumps where free because it was for charity.
